ECOWAS Diplomat Urges Gedeans to Unite -Says, “There Is Strength In Togetherness”

MONROVIA: Being aware that post-election issues normally create hard feelings and unnecessary division among citizens and rival camps, a prominent citizen of Grand Gedeh County, Chief Dr. William D. Towah has urged his kinsmen to rally around a common cause in the aftermath of the just concluded representative bye-elections just as he congratulated the eventual winner, Mr. Jeremiah Garwo Sokan on his elections, stressing, “the election is over and we expect the stakeholders to manage whatever differences that existed among them before, during and after the process for the good of the county and, overall, the country and the subregion”

In a press release issued in Abuja on Friday, April 26, 2024, copy of which was sent to this paper, Chief Dr. Towah who is the Director of Administration and Finance (DAF) of the ECOWAS Court of Justice said it was high time that well- meaning Grand Gedeans speak on issues that will unite the people and county especially coming after a highly contested election filled with emotions “to find a replacement for one of our outstanding leaders, the late Representative Erol Madison Gwion, Sr of district # 1 who died and was buried early this year”

“We wish to use this medium to thank our people for the orderly manner they conducted themselves before, during and after the election which shows that besides everyone pushing the interest of their respective candidates to win, they were concerned about the collective interest of the district, the county and the people and how best they could all rally around a common cause to keep us united and promote peace and harmony”, Dr. Towah said.

“It is in this vein that we also congratulate the winner, Mr. Jeremiah Garwo Sokan for his triumph at the poll and urge him to see his victory as a mandate to serve our people, bring them together and lead them in a way that will benefit everyone while at the same time reaching out to his defeated colleagues to put their differences away for the good of everybody” , Dr. Towah said.

He said he was excited that almost everyone who contested in the past bye-election spoke highly about the legacy of the late Honorable Gwion and the need to keep it alive which according to him illustrates that anyone of them was cognizant of the fact that good leadership which the late lawmaker espoused is a virtue and must be encouraged.

“I was thrilled that an interesting development happened during the bye-election as almost all the candidates spoke highly of the late Honorable Gwion, the politics he practiced and believed in and the legacy he sought to leave behind which has become a benchmark for good leadership among our people”, the renowned ECOWAS Diplomat said.

“We need to encourage ourselves to seek for purposeful leadership that will serve our people so that the challenges facing them will be minimized if not alleviated. I think this bye-election was a perfect platform to see the enthusiasm shown by all the contestants who were all keen to change the narratives for the best, but it was just that only a single person must win the race”, the renowned diplomat said.

Chief Dr. Towah, a decorated public servant who has on several occasions commended the giant strides been recorded by Liberia’s nascent democracy, said he was happy that Grand Gedeans are deeply involved in the greater Liberia project “to promote peace, mutual co-existence, harmony and development so as to further strengthen the cause of good governance in the country”.

“The other takeaway from this election is that Grand Gedeans are totally involved with the greater Liberia project to enrich our democratic space. They are civilly engaging the polity, they are committed to the spirit of one Liberia with one destiny, and they are interested in maintaining the peace and consolidating on the gains the country has made since peace was restored in 2003”, Dr. Towah mentioned.

“We must commend them for their resilience and continue to encourage them to maintain the course for the country, for the county and for the future of everybody”, Dr. Towah said.

He said no matter the situation he will continue to be in contact with the county and its people and willing to contribute whatever quota he has just as he also urged his kinsmen to form a synergy that will ensure that every citizen is involved in the development and progress of the county.

“Let me end this statement by calling on every one of us to ensure that we tap into the potential of every citizen from the county be it at home or in the diaspora, whatever background they come from the common cause there is to make sure that Grand Gedeh County will not lag behind others. This must be our vow and should stand by it”, Chief Dr. Towah concluded.
