In fulfillment of Senator Abraham Darius Dillon’s campaign promise to return portion of his monthly earnings from the Legislature back into the community for development purposes, the Senator Dillon’s Montserrado County Development Council has disclosed that the Council has established a bank account and deposited the first five months payment of US$15,000 into said account.
Making the disclosure at a press conference, Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at the Liberty Party’s Headquarters, the head of Senator Dillon’s Montserrado County Development Council, Mother Comfort Bedell, said during his campaign for Senator of Montserrado County, Mr. Abraham Darius Dillon promised that upon his election, he would receive only $ 5,000 USD of his salary and benefits, and give the remaining amount to the people of Montserrado County for development purposes.
“For the purpose of ensuring transparency, accountability and efficiency in effectuating this promise, Senator Dillon further declared that funds allotted to the people of Montserrado County from his salary and benefits would be directly managed by an independent council, totally detached from influences from his office,” Mother Bedell said.
Mother Bedell said, based on this development quest, Senator Dillon’s Montserrado County Development Council was set up to manage the funds allotted to the people of Montserrado County by Senator Dillon. She said the Council comprises three representatives from each of the 17 Districts of Montserrado County; bringing the Council membership to 51 persons.
“Of the total membership of 51 persons, 11 persons, including me, were elected to serve as leaders of the group through a very competitive process,” she said, noting that the leadership includes herself as Chairperson of District # 13; Pastor Aaron J. Wheagar, Co-chair, District # 17; Kla Edward Toomey, General Secretary, District # 2; Jimmy George, Assistant Secretary, District # 5; Victoria Torlo Koiquah, Financial Secretary, District # 6; and Dearest Brumskine, Treasurer, District # 9. Others include Alieu Konneh, Youth Coordinator, District #11; Elder Jallah, Senior Advisor I, District # 9; S. Yelekay Tingba, Senior Advisor II, District #4 and Lic. S. Roland Trobeh, Religious Advisor, District # 6.
Mother Bedell further disclosed that immediately after election of the leadership of the Darius Dillon County Development Council, they members held consultations with Senator Dillon to lay down the ground rules and scope of operations.
“To this effect, we are pleased to inform the people of Montserrado County and Supporters of Senator Darius Dillon in Home and Abroad that the Council has opened an Account at the UBA Bank to be solely managed by the Council. I along with two other members of this Council are signatories to said account,” the Council head said.
She disclosed that Senator Dillon has remitted at least 15,000 USD to this account; representing five months of his salaries and benefits promised to the people of Montserrado County.
“The Council has established a clear and effective financial policy to govern the management of funds entrusted to it. The Council has also held series of meetings with communities across Montserrado County and identified initial projects for implementation. The implementation of these projects shall begin as of Monday, March 16, 2020. The council will strive to ensure most of the projects identified and to be identified will cut across districts in Montserrado County or impact the lives of many of its citizens,” Mother Bedell stated.
“Distinguished ladies and Gentlemen of the Press and the people of Montserrado County, as we embark on this desirable task of voluntarily serving our country through the Darius Dillon County Development Council, we seize this moment to assure you of our fullest and unwavering commitment to achieving this cause. We also want to appreciate Senator Dillon for being a man of his word by fulfilling campaign promises he made to the people of Montserrado County and for continuously adding value to the governance of our country by advocating and fighting for the people of Liberia since his ascendancy as Senator of Montserrado County irrespective, of all the threats and odds he’s confronted with each day.
“We believe that Liberia can make considerably progress in defeating poverty, disease and illiteracy in our country if there were many Dillons across the governance frameworks of our country,” the Dillon Montserrado County Development Council head stated”.
