Desist from Violent Acts -Min. Kpui Urges Youth

By: Anthony Q. Jiffan, II.

The Minister of State without Portfolio, Trokon Kpui, has urged Liberian youths to refrain from being used to undermine peace in the country. Instead, he said the youth should allow themselves to take advantage of future opportunities both in public or private sectors that would prepare them further to be productive citizens in the society.

Minister Kpui made the assertions when he was honored by a group of young Liberians under the banner, Gabriel Baccus Matthew Intellectual Forum based in the Township of West Point.

During the occasion, he said many of the violent acts are sometimes manipulated through protest demonstrations and on many occasions dominated by young people who do not benefit from their actions. He noted that these violent actions often satisfy a few individuals for personal aggrandizement, noting that youth need to redirect their focus from holding placards to capacity building initiatives at various levels.

The Minister of State without Portfolio said the peace in Liberia is dependent upon the youthful generation; and as such they should not allow themselves to be used against what they have fought for over the years.

He furthered that the maintenance of peace in the country will also give rise to opportunities for the Liberian population.

“The Peace of Liberia is in the hands of the young people. We should not allow ourselves to be used only because we are less busy” he added.

According to him, if the country must change for the better, it will depend on the decision that the young people will make to take over from the present generation of elders.

The Minister then thanked the young people for recognizing what he termed as “my little contribution toward the lives of Liberians”, adding that the individual whose name has been honored by the intellectual forum is a reputable person in the Liberian society.

For his part, the chairman of the Gabriel Barccus Matthew Intellectual Forum, Jeremiah Bryant said that it is understood and known that Minister Kpui has impacted the lives of Liberians, especially the young people.

He said it is always the joy of the organization to recognize every person who has impacted the lives of Liberians just as Minister Kpui has done and continue to do for his fellow citizens.

According to Bryant, the workings of the young Liberian who serves as a Minister of State without Portfolio has touch the lives of people across the country.
