CSO Human Rights, Pro-democracy Campaigners Petition US, French Governments Today

A conglomeration of civil society human rights and pro-democracy campaigners, organized under the umbrella of “Partners for Democracy & Good Governance (PdG)” will today, Friday, 16 October 2020, present petition statements to the governments of the United States of America and France through their embassies in Monrovia.

The Partners for Democracy & Good Governance (PdG) in a press release, indicated that its petition is being prompted by growing apprehensions of smell fragility of existential threat to human security, peace, and especially democratic governance, particularly within the MRU basin, and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).   It can be recalled that at least 10 civil society organizations (CSOs), recently signed a ten-count Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), in Monrovia to promoter strategic collaboration through advocacy to foster national and regional peace and security consolidation, and concomitantly promote democratic governance, adherence to, and respect for the rule of law as well as regional integration and development.

Shortly following the formation, members of the PdG presented the petition to the Liberian National Legislature, the Office of the Special Representative of the President of ECOWAS, and the Embassy of Sweden.

Prominent CSOs, including Better Future Foundation (BFF), Foundation for International Dignity (FIND), Rural Human Rights Activists Program (RHRAP), the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) and the New African Research & Development Agency (NARDA), among others are key actors of the PdG initiative.
