CDC’s Post-Ruling Reaction Digs UP Boakai’s Excesses -‘Boakai Must Desist from Ruining Democratic Gains,” It Says

MONROVIA – The biggest constituent member of the immediate past ruling party, the Coalition for Democratic Change, the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), has put the president of the country, Joseph Nyuma Boakai, on notice, warning him to desist immediately from the dismantling Liberia’s democratic gains. It said assaults on constitutional order is a dangerous provocation—a recipe for national chaos that could return Liberia to the darkest chapters of its history.

In a statement Wednesday, April 23, welcoming the ruling of the Supreme Court’s ruling in the bill of information filed by Speaker Koffa against his ousters, the CDC said it would not sit idly by as our nation teeters on the edge.

In this historic moment, the CDC said, “we must not forget the enduring example of Amb. George Manneh Weah, former President of the Republic and the undisputed paragon of peace, unity, and democracy.”

The party recalled that even in the face of betrayal and provocation, its standard bearer, Weah, as President Weah, “chose country over chaos, stability over strife” and that his legacy stands “in direct contrast to the reckless and divisive governance of President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, who’s so-called ‘rescue mission’ has become nothing but a risky mission—a desperate agenda marked by tribalism, economic mismanagement, and a growing hunger to centralize power at any cost”.

The statement signed by acting Chairman Janga Kowo conveyed congratulatory sentiments of the National Executive Committee of the Mighty Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) for what it described “the landmark ruling of the Honourable Supreme Court of the Republic of Liberia as a resounding victory for the people, for the Constitution, and for Liberia’s fragile democracy, which continues to come under assault by those driven by greed, ego, and blind political ambition”.

According to the CDC, the ruling—rendered in response to the Bill of Information filed by the legitimate Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa—serves as a deafening rejection of the coordinated, illegal attempt by a desperate minority, aided by state actors, to usurp legislative authority and plunge the nation into constitutional crisis.

The CDC said from the very beginning, it stood firm and unshaken in its position that “the illegal removal of Speaker Koffa was nothing short of a constitutional coup.

“Today, the highest court in the land has spoken—and its voice is clear: the law is supreme, and no man is above it.”

The party wants “the ruling serve as a mortal blow to those who have sought to undermine our democratic order through brute state power and unlawful manipulation”.

“Let it be known that the CDC is no bystander in the face of tyranny. We are the vanguard of the people’s resistance, and we will never retreat in the defence of the Republic,” asserted the CDC, commending Speaker Fonati Koffa for “his boldness, consistency, and deep loyalty to the rule of law”.

The CDC said Koffa’s unwavering stand is a testament to the spirit of a new Liberia—a Liberia where the people, not political conspirators, determine the direction of the state.

The party called Speaker Koffa to lead with revolutionary grace and statesmanship, recognizing that this victory belongs not only to him or the CDC, but to every Liberian who believes in the rule of law.

“We urge him to break the artificial chains of so-called majority and minority blocs and unite the House around a shared vision of justice, inclusion, and accountability,” said the CDC, adding: “As always, the CDC remains the pillar of hope for the Liberian masses.

“We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to democracy, peace, and justice—but let it be known that we are ever ready to resist tyranny in all its forms. The people’s voice will not be silenced, and our revolution for a better Liberia marches on.”
