STAND Wants Legislature Comply with SC Decision -Threatens to Stage Civil Disobedience if Defiance Persists
MONROVIA – The Solidarity & Trust for a New Day (STAND), convener of the July 17th “We the People Protest’, says it celebrates yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling on the ‘Bill of Information’ as a powerful reaffirmation of constitutional supremacy and a decisive win for the rule of law in Liberia.
STAND therefore demands that the House of Representatives immediately honor and implement the Supreme Court’s ruling—an obligation that transcends politics and speaks to the core of national responsibility. Failure to do so will only deepen the wounds inflicted on Liberia’s fragile democracy by reckless power plays and factional arrogance.
STAND further issues a stern warning to the National Legislature: end the lawless defiance, respect the authority of the Court, and restore integrity to the people’s House.
At the same time, STAND warns President Joseph Boakai to immediately withdraw all forms of support (overt or covert) for the so-called majority bloc’s illegitimate power grab, a reckless scheme that has paralyzed the Legislature and trampled on the foundational principles of democracy.
STAND calls on the President to rise above partisan interests and exercise true statesmanship by reigning in his allies, ending the manufactured chaos, and shifting focus back to governance—especially the urgent, everyday struggles of the Liberian people who are crushed under the weight of poverty and economic hardship.
The organization expresses profound outrage at the legislature’s unending, self-centered power tussle, which drags on even as citizens face escalating hardship and national despair.
In alliance with ‘WE THE PEOPLE’ Protest Movement, STAND delivers this final and unequivocal warning: Any continued defiance of the Supreme Court’s ruling will trigger a nonviolent public action (sustained and unrelenting) until justice is upheld and the rule of law is fully restored.
In the spirit of peaceful resistance and democratic renewal, STAND thanks the thousands of citizens who recently showed their support at its press conference and reaffirmed their readiness to stand up for a new Liberia.
In the coming days, STAND is launching a strategic community-by-community mobilization effort, including county-wide engagement, mass awareness, and outreach. Thousands of protest T-shirts are now being printed in preparation for JULY 17th: THE DAY OF THE PEOPLE.
