Various scientific studies addressing the efficacy of prayer say, “…prayer is the most common complement to mainstream medicine, far outpacing acupuncture, herbs, vitamins and other alternative remedies. According to a 2006 STEP project study, patients who knew they were receiving prayers did experience slightly higher recovery complications, possibly due to chance and to the added anxiety or pressure caused by expectations from the prayers. Although hypertension-stricken patient Public Works Minister Mobutu Vlah Nyenpan might be getting the best medical attention that Liberia has to offer at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center, there is also no denying that the supplications from Liberians praying for his speedy recovery have spurred his miraculous recovery. As The Analyst has gathered, Minister Nyenpan’s colleagues from the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change, have been fervently praying for the speedy recovery of Minister Nyenpan.
Mulbah Morlue is the National Chairman of the country’s governing ruling party, the Coalition for Democratic Change. Chairman Morlue has joined scores of Liberians to seek divine intervention in the expeditious recovery of Minister Nyenpan.
In a very religious outpouring, Mr. Morlue had these words of encourage for his compatriot: “As was Hezekiah’s life extended, so shall Mobutu’s life be extended, this is the Prayer of the CDC; and we remain humble under the Lord’s miraculous Hands’ as he quickens Min. Nyenpan.”
Quoting the Biblical verse-Isaiah 38:1-9, Chairman Morlue recounted how in the days when Hezekiah was sick and Isaiah the prophet was sent by the Lord to deliver a bad news, the scriptures revealed that Hezekiah didn’t break, but turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the Lord, and said, “Remember now, O Lord, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what is good in Your sight.
“And Hezekiah wept bitterly. At this point, after the fervent intercessions of Hezekiah when he reminded the Lord of his loyalty and commitment, moved the Lord to change his mind and sent back Isaiah the Prophet with a new message of Hope saying ‘Go and tell Hezekiah; ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will add to your days fifteen years….’ This is the writing of Hezekiah, king of Judah, when he had been sick and had recovered from his sickness.
“With the progress being made by Hon. Nyenpan compared to days earlier, we CDCeans continue to give thanks to the Lord. And the value of life and contribution of Hon. Nyenpan imposes upon us the spiritual obligations to remain on our knees in fervent prayers until he’s up and building roads again, inspecting refurbished feeder ones, etc,” Chairman Morlue stated, further revealing the pressure-stricken Public Works Minister is one of the many party stalwarts that assumed responsibility for facilitating the construction of the CDC Vocational Training School at the party’s headquarters
“His dues and commitment to the growth and viability of the party summon the moral dominance in us, every CDCean, to rise in a strong prayer of agreement with him to the Lord; ‘Remember Mobutu o Lord, how he’s faithful to you, and has been a strong pillar of our party’s growth. Thank you, o Lord, that your Miracle-working hand is already in full display in his life as he makes progress through your loving kindness and mercies. By faith, we know you’ve extended his life even more than 15 years and have quickened his spirit, soul and body. In Jesus name, amen,” Morlue supplicated.
In similar supplicatory fashion, the Lord Mayor of the City of Monrovia, Jefferson Tamba Koija, has added his prayers for the miraculous healing of his compatriot.
Prayed Koijee: “As a nation and people, may we continue to pray for Public Works Minister, Mobutu Vlah Nyenpan. We know God who has started this journey will sail you through on your hospital bed. A man of courage, a workaholic and reliable public servant, enabling massive roads rehabilitation and construction nationwide, a key component of the pro poor agenda of His Excellency. Remembering you on a Sunday morning like this; may God heal you, big brother! Get well soon, JTK!”
Martin K.N. Kollie, a critical voice against the Weah administration, was among the scores of Liberians who saw the logic of putting aside political differences to empathize with Minister Nyenpan.
“The news that I am getting is not favorable. Another public official again? Wow. Let us pray. Hope it’s not true,” Martin Kollie posted on his Facebook wall when news broke that Minister Mobutu Nyenpan had collapsed last Thursday and was admitted at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center for ruptured brain aneurysms.
In the wake of the prayers and the careful medical attention he has received from the John F. Kennedy Medical Center, official accounts have pointed to a marked improvement in Minister’s Nyenpan’s condition.
According to the National Chairman of the Coalition for Democratic Change, Mulbah Morlue, there is some level of improvement in Minister Nyenpan’s health condition. The public works minister was said to be comatose upon admission at JFK.
“As of last night (meaning Thursday night), we are in touch with medical authorities, and just left JFK where Min. Mobutu Nyenpan is very much alive and has improved. #Godheals when we all pray. Amen,” a statement from Chairman Morlue said last evening.
Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel F. McGill, also spoke encouragingly about Mr. Nyenpan’s condition.
“I have been following very closely, and with prayerful attention, the development of the Public Works Minister’s health condition. I take comfort from the fact that he is getting the best possible medical care and attention available at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Monrovia. I convey on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia, our most fervent prayers and best wishes for Minister Nyenpan speedy recovery,” Minister McGill stated in a social media post last evening.
The statements from the two officials followed a response from the brother of Minister Nyenpan, Mr. T. Ojuku Nyenpan, who also quashed rumors of his brother’s passing.
“For the sake of family and friends, I must do this: Minister Nyenpan is alive. The breaking news on social media is false,” T. Ojuku Nyenpan said late Friday evening.
