As the electorates campaign in Cape Mount County to vote their votes in the bi-elections that will present a senator who will fill in the vacant seat of deceased senator Edward Dagoseh, reports coming from the field speak of violence in Mano River Kongo between supporters of candidate Victor Watson and Madam Dabbah Vapilah of the Collaborating Political Parties.
According to our Grand Cape Mount County correspondent, tension escalated yesterday when Mr. Idrissa aka “Bomber” who is considered the main sponsor of candidate Victor Watson, opened fire on members of candidate Dabbah’s camp, wounding one Konowa on his back.
“During the heated campaign, Idrissa’s brother juked Konowa on the head. He also got wounded on his back from bullets,” Mustapha Manobah, a resident of Kongo, told our correspondent.
During the melee, it is alleged that diamond investor Idrissa blocked the road leading from Monrovia to Mano River Kongo; as he started shooting live rounds.
Accordingly, securities authorities have refused to comment on the issue.
“Bomber” Idrissa is well known for using ‘cash violence’ to upturn local elections in the region. It was rumored that “Bomber” influenced outcome of the last 2017 representative elections which saw Mr. Simeon Taylor losing to incumbent Bob Sheriff.
All efforts to contact the Watson camp for comments on the incident proved futile up to press time.
