For his outstanding leadership ability and support to humanity, the Higher Place Christian University (HPCU), based in Atlanta, Georgia, the United States of America has conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Global Leadership and Business Management on Moses Owen Browne, Jr., Liberia’s Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London, United Kingdom.
In a citation read at a well-attended ceremony held on the Campus of the University in Atlanta, Georgia, HPCU, said Ambassador Browne has contributed so much to humanity in his little lifetime, and has demonstrated goodwill to his generation; and that the University feels the need to honor and present him his flowers. The citation furthered that Ambassador Browne is one person who supports humanity and communities quietly and the impact can be felt all through generations.
“Each year we choose only five people for this high honor. This special doctorate degree is due in part because of your outstanding achievements and contributions to the culture and society both at the national and international levels, and for inspiring the next generation”, the citation from HPCU read.
Responding to the honor, the young Liberian diplomat thanked the faculty and staff of the University for the Honor which he said has inspired him to work even harder for humanity and particularly, the people of Liberia. He thanked the Liberian leader, President George Manneh Weah for affording him the opportunity to serve his people and country, something which he’s grateful to God for.
Referencing a verse in the holy scripture of Ecclesiastes chapter seven verses twelve which says, “wisdom is a defense, and money is a defense: but the Excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom gives life to those who have it. Ambassador Browne noted that everyone needs some form of education because it is so important to overcome life’s challenges and the issues of life. Knowledge is power and when you have power, you overcome and subdue anything”, Browne concluded that education was key to overcoming the perils of life.
He expressed his excitement in being amongst great men and women being honored for exceptional service to humanity. “This can only be God. I am eternally grateful to God for such recognition and I dedicate this honor to my dynamic leader and president of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency, Dr. George Manneh Weah. I am not worthy of this honor, but I am grateful to God for the opportunity he continues to provide for me to be able to serve humanity”, he said.
To get an honor, he said one will have to work harder with dignity, transparency and accountability, and be result oriented. “I have been at the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in London for less than 24 months, but God has been with our team and we are succeeding”, he said.
He emphasized that since his arrival in the United Kingdom, he has inspired a good number of young people by helping to establish educational opportunities and scholarships. “There are some Assistant Ministers and directors in the current Government who I helped enroll at prestigious universities in the U.K., I have helped many young people from Liberia gain educational opportunities in London and I believe God has given me this opportunity and honor to inspire me to continue to do more for my people.
