AML Creating More Full-Time Jobs for Liberians -Vows Continuous Expansion of Life-Transformation Programs

MONROVIA – As major boost for local employment, ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) last week transitioned 127 contractors into full-time employees, reinforcing its commitment to job creation as part of its ongoing expansion.

AML press release said the milestone comes as AML gears up for the anticipated passage of a new Mineral Development Agreement (MDA), which is expected to open even more employment opportunities as mining operations scale up.

For the newly confirmed employees—many from mining communities in Nimba, Bong, and Grand Bassa—this shift means long-term stability, consistent income, and enhanced benefits. AML has hinted that this is just the beginning, with more contractors likely to be converted to permanent staff as the company expands further.

For individuals like Melvina Sonah, one of the new full-time employees, the transition has been life-changing.

“Right now, heaven has come to earth for me. I can now take care of my family, pay school fees, and provide food. This is a huge relief,” she said, sharing her experience which is a testament to the broader economic impact that stable employment brings to Liberian families.

While this milestone is significant, even more employment opportunities will be created once the new MDA is passed, the release further noted.

The agreement will pave the way for expanded mining activities, infrastructure development, and increased production, all of which require a larger workforce.

AML has committed to prioritizing Liberians for these new jobs, and ensuring that local talent benefits from the company’s growth.

Attorney Patience Jordan Kargbah, AML’s Human Resources Business Partner, emphasized the company’s long-term vision. “As production expands and we maintain high safety and operational standards, we expect to transition even more contractors into permanent positions. The passage of the new MDA will be a game-changer for job creation in Liberia,” she said.

Liberia has long struggled with high unemployment rates, a challenge that successive governments have faced with limited success.

While the government plays a crucial role in creating an environment conducive to job growth through policies, infrastructure development, and education—it is ultimately private sector investment that drives large-scale employment.

AML’s initiative highlights the vital role that foreign investment plays in addressing Liberia’s unemployment crisis.

By injecting capital into the economy, developing infrastructure, and creating skilled jobs, companies like AML contribute to economic stability in ways that government alone cannot achieve.

The Liberian government has often been burdened with the expectation of solving the country’s job creation problem single-handedly. However, the reality is that sustainable employment largely depends on strategic partnerships with private sector actors.

The new MDA, once passed, will enable AML to make additional investments that will lead to more employment opportunities, easing the pressure on government to directly create jobs.

Experts argue that consistent investment in industries like mining, agriculture, and manufacturing will help Liberia break the cycle of unemployment and underemployment.

“Foreign direct investment is key to reducing unemployment in Liberia. When companies like AML expand and hire more Liberians, they not only provide jobs but also help stimulate other sectors, from transportation to small businesses,” said an economic analyst in Monrovia.

The transition of workers to full-time employment is expected to have far-reaching economic benefits. Stable income means families can afford better healthcare, education, and housing, ultimately improving the standard of living. It also injects more money into local businesses, supporting entrepreneurship and further job creation.

AML’s expansion is a clear demonstration of how private sector-led initiatives can drive economic development.

As the company continues to grow, and with the anticipated passage of the new MDA, even more Liberians stand to benefit from stable employment. This, in turn, will help address one of Liberia’s most persistent challenges, job creation, and contribute to the country’s long-term economic resilience.

ArcelorMittal Liberia’s commitment to transitioning contractors into full-time employees is a step in the right direction, but the bigger picture lies ahead.

The new MDA holds the potential to create even more jobs, alleviating the burden on government and contributing to lasting economic stability.

As Liberia continues to seek solutions to its unemployment crisis, private sector investment especially in industries like mining remains a critical part of the equation.

The future of job creation in Liberia will depend on how well the government and private sector can work together to create the right conditions for businesses to expand and hire more Liberians.

AML’s latest employment transition is proof that, with the right investments and policies, progress is possible, the release concluded.

The core of your writing whilst appearing reasonable in the beginning, did not sit properly with me after some time. Somewhere within the sentences you actually were able to make me a believer unfortunately just for a while. I however have got a problem with your leaps in assumptions and you would do well to fill in those gaps. In the event that you actually can accomplish that, I would definitely be amazed.
