Alex Cummings to Address Blyden Forum -Lecture on Role of Political Actors in Ensuring Credible Elections

Against the backdrop of the high wave of electoral and political violence permeating the landscape of Liberia, the Press Union of Liberia has invited the Chairman of the Collaborating Political Parties and Political Leader of the Alternative National Congress, Mr. Alexander B. Cummings, to serve as lecturer at the esteemed Edward Wilmot Blyden Forum where Mr. Cummings is expected to lecture on “the role of political actors in ensuring free, fair, transparent and peaceful elections”.

According to a press release from the PUL, the Union is aware of the increasing wave of violence employed by politicians ahead of the mid-term senatorial elections in the country, and would love to extract perspectives from important political leaders like Mr. Cummings on how the violence already witnessed can be stopped from reoccurring.

The Union’s next holding of the Blyden Forum is slated Friday, September 18, 2020 at 1:00pm at iCampus on Snapper Hill, Carey Street.

“We look forward to a lecture which will honor the ideas our honoree, the revered Edward Wilmot Blyden stood for during his lifetime. As an educator, Blyden strived to enlighten his compatriots on the complexities of the world across the Atlantic; in his role as journalist, the Liberian Statesman wrote journals on the poverty in his homeland but yet rich cultures of aboriginals scattered across West Africa.  The politician Blyden campaigned for integration which went beyond gender, race and ethnicities,” the PUL noted.

The Union is therefore inviting the public to come and join the journalism community to set an agenda which will effectively redirect the national political discourse toward the meaningful welfare issues hitching on better healthcare, education, food security, and economic productivity.
