The 2019 Annual Conference of the African Bar Association (AfBA) gets underway in Monrovia, tomorrow, October 21 at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.

The conference which is being under the theme: ‘Tackling Contemporary Issues Facing the African Continent: How Lawyers can Drive A Renaissance’ is expected to bring together over 300 lawyers from across the continent and host Liberia.
According to an LNBA release quoting the Local Organizing Chairperson, Cllr. J. Bima Lansanah, this is the first time Liberia is hosting the African Bar Annual Conference. Cllr. Lansanah said Liberia was earlier chosen by AfBA’s President Hannibal Uwaifo as the venue to host a Regional Security Workshop for Military and Paramilitary Organizations for the continental body, but the workshop is now embedded as a key activity within this year’s annual conference.
Cllr. Lansanah is further quoted as saying that the four-day conference kicks off on Monday October 21, when the President of Liberia, H.E. George Manneh Weah, will deliver the Opening Statement as Special Guest of Honor and be subsequently admitted as an Honorary Member of AfBA.
Other key highlights of the AfBA 2019 conference include keynote address by Mr. Karim Khan QC, a former Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court and presentation by various local and international legal experts and other professionals on contemporary issues facing the African Continent, the release concluded.
The African Bar Association was founded in 1971 to foster exchange of opinions and experiences among members, formulation of policies that would better reposition the continent’s socio economic and political development and advancement with the law as the bedrock to drive these developments.
