Justice Musu Scott’s Trial Was Political -Says Musu Family; Writes Justice Ministry With New Evidence
MONROVIA: The families of imprisoned former Chief Justice Gloria Musu-Scott, say they are convinced that the trial and conviction for murder of Justice Gloria Musu Scott and some family members was intended to achieve political objectives of the government. They family consequently wrote a lengthy letter to the new Justice Minister and Attorney General Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh as they introduced new evidence to exonerate the Justice Scott and her family members.
Introducing their new evidence involving circumstances surrounding the murdering of Charloe Musu, the Musu family requested Justice Minister Tweh to institute measures and actions that will ensure that the Police and the Ministry of Justice are not tools for achieving political objectives and malicious prosecution.
In a letter signed by the family’s spokesman Nathaniel S. Toe, Jr. and attested by more than 32 family members, the Musu Scott family cited new evidence that they said have proven that the prosecution of Justice Scott and her relatives including Ma Rebecca Youdeh Wisner, Gertrude Newton and Alice which led to the life sentence was a persecution and politically motivated to anyhow secure a guilty verdict.
The Musu Family says there are clear revelations by the lead police investigator of the matter, ACP Monroe A. Dennis, coupled with the quarrels between Cllr. Swaliho Sesay, Cllr. Lafayette Gould, Cllr. Bobby Livingstone and Cllr Adolphus Karnuah over the division/distribution of the huge amount of money paid out to the prosecution lawyers, who also received monthly GOL salary checks, and the untimely visit of former Solicitor General Nyenati Tuan to the quarter of juror hearing the case explains the government of Liberia’s determination to target and persecute Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott and her family members.
Explaining in their letter, the family pointed out that ACP Monroe Dennis informed radio listeners and put in the public sphere that he refused to be a witness in said murder trial of Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott et al and absconded to the USA in September, 2023 from which he subsequently resigned from the Liberia national Police. Mr. Dennis placed telephone calls from the USA to the radio station, Hot FM 107.9, on March 31, 2024 and April 1, 2024 during the morning hours to make this revelation.
Mr. Dennis’ Statement and explanations were captured on the Spoon Network on April 4, 2024 8:00 PM, Link https://fb.watch/rX7AcGCzvT/ where Mr. Dennis and Gould established that the amount given by the Government of Liberia was in fact, US$200,000.00 for the case ‘Republic of Liberia -Vs-Cllr. Gloria Musu-Scott et al.
The family further quoted Police Investigator Dennis by stating again with clarity that the police investigation led by him was politically influenced and did not gather evidence and findings which pointed to the charges of Murder, Criminal Conspiracy and Making False Information to Law Enforcement Officers, citing the link https://fb.watch/rX7L9pDSRq/.
“After the said Final Judgment,” the family wrote, “the Prosecutors or Lawyers representing the Republic of Liberia, including” Bobby W. Livingstone, Cllr. Adophus Karnuah, Cllr. Lafyette Gould, Cllr. Swaliho Sesay, County Attorney of Montserrado County exposed in the media amidst claims and counter claims that an amount of money in the tone of over US150K was received from the Government of Liberia for the change of venue for prosecution of this case which didn’t happen but yet this amount shared amongst the Prosecuting lawyers as reported on the website https://www.liberianobserver.com/liberia-us150k-alledgely-miappropriated-prosecutors .
Besides, the family said that in February 2024, neighbors alerted the Police about unknown men on the Compound of Justice Scott located in the Sheriff Gas Station Community of Lower Virginia. This is the crime scene where Charloe Musu was murdered on February 22, 2024. “The Police arrested two men on the said premises owned by Cllr. Gloria Musu-Scott with keys which they used to enter the said property. These men, Blessing Cooper, alias August Jesus, Abraham Jarbo and Caroline Williams have been charged with Burglary and Theft of Property valued at US4, 000.00. “
Unfortunately the family disclosed that the police made determination of the new evidence without the enrolment of Justice Scott whose property was burglarized, pointing out that Justice Scott’s involvement could have revealed to investigators the total property/items stolen and value of the same.
From the explanation of Mr. Monroe Dennis and the confessed amounts, whether US$150, 000.00 or US200, 000.00 paid by the Government of Liberia to the Ministry of Justice for this case, the family furthered that it is convinced that this amount was to secure false witnesses, and for bribery, to obtain a guilty verdict favorable to the political objectives of the Government by all means.
“We are also convinced that the money and the drive to secure political objectives of the Government of Liberia, enthused and emboldened the former Solicitor General, Cllr. Nyenati Tuan to brazenly make a clandestine illegal and authorized visit at the quarters of the sequestered trial jurors, after the Temple of Justice Building had closed down for normal business, leaving the premise in the care of judicial securities,” the letter by the family to the Attorney General said.
The Musu family indicated that confessed actions of Solicitor General Nyenati Tuan give the family and others the indication and perception that the true intent of this visit was to influence members of the Jury with a portion of the money paid to the Ministry of Justice for this case.
“Because of Cllr. Tuan’s illegal and authorized visit to the sequestered jurors’ quarters, many of us were not really shocked at the Guilty Verdict returned by the Jury, even though Dr. Koulee, the Government of Liberia pathologist boldly stated that he discarded critical element of his findings including the mixed DNA he found under the fingernails of the late Charloe Musu,” the Musu family added.
The next critical incident since the conclusion of the trial in the lower court which indicates that the Ministry of Justice is continuing the prosecution of Cllr. Scott and her family members are the police investigation of persons found in and on the premises owned by Cllr. Gloria Musu-Scott. The writ of arrest caused by the office of the County Attorney of Montserrado County to be issued out of the Monrovia City Court is clear evidence that the persecution continues.
“The intrusion of three persons who were arrested with keys to the premises owned by Cllr. Gloria Musu-Scott is a significant link of the trial of our family members.
“We believe this subsequent incident is critical and if the Ministry of Justice is interested in the truth, this investigation and preparation of court documents will be done with care and due diligence. Instead, the Police conducted an investigation without any contact with the owner of the compound, the dwelling house and other structures and expensive equipment in the premises.“ they said amongst other things”, the family said.
They produced another critical point, that is, the supervision of the issuance of a Writ of Arrest from the Monrovia City Court by the County Attorney for an offense which occurred in Lower Virginia, saying that the fact that the writ of Arrest did not state the locality where the offense happened, the writ of arrest did not state who owned the premises intruded into and burglarized, the fact that the Police report and the Writ of Arrest did not contain the owner’s inventory of personal properties, household items, equipment and damage to the dwelling house and other structures were all intentional.
According to the family, the intention here is to create the opportunity for the Republic of Liberia to lose the case to obscure forever the important question of how did Blessing Cooper alias August Jesus, Jarbo and Caroline Williams come into possession of the keys of Justice Scott’s residence especially when witness statements in the possession of the Police and prosecuting lawyers have stated that during the incident the intruder(s) in the sleeping quarters on the night of February 22, 2023 were demanding the … “f—-g keys” from the late Charloe Musu.
“The foundation is laid to eternally prevent answers to all the questions about the KEYS being in authorized persons’ possession. When did the defendants come into possession of the keys? How did the defendants become aware that the keys could gain them unauthorized access entry into the premises of Cllr. Gloria Musu-Scott? When did the intrusion begin?”, the family said
The family reiterated that they are convinced that the Police and the Ministry of Justice handling of this offense, since the end of the trial in the lower court, is intended to further conceal the innocence of Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott and her family languishing in jail and continue the objectives of the Ministry of Justice not to pursue the true and actual killers of the Charloe Musu. “In simple words, the Montserrado Attorney Office and the Ministry of Justice want to cover-up and continue the persecution of innocent persons,” they said
The family, convinced that the Police and the Ministry of Justice’s handling of this offense, since the end of the trial in the lower court, is intended to further conceal the innocence of Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott and her family languishing in jail and continue the Ministry of Justice objective not to pursue the true and actual killers of the Charloe Musu said it was bring all of these concerning the case because TITLE 12, The Executive Law, approved: May 11, 1972 and published June 1972 Section 22.2, which states inter gives the Attorney General and Justice Minister the right to correct the work of the Prosecution.
Their reliance states “It shall be the duty of the Minister of Justice to Procure the Proper evidence for and conduct, prosecute or defend all suits and proceedings in the courts in which the Republic of Liberia or any officer thereof, as to such officer, is a party or may be interested and to Institute all legal proceedings necessary for law enforcement; etc”.
Additionally, the family noted that Criminal Procedure Code of Liberia provides legal tools and mechanisms which authorized the Attorney general through Prosecuting Attorneys to prevent, correct and the miscarriage of Justice, persecution and cruel and inhumane treatment of persons even up to the highest Court in Liberia.
“The Family of Cllr. Gloria Musu-Scott et al laments that these are very serious and concerning issues to them that in their state of grief with one life lost, the ongoing persecution with four members are persecuted and languishing behind bars and the clear intention to disregard the opportunity to continue the investigation to find the killer(s) of Charloe Musu,” they said in their communication, saying that finding the killer(s) of Charloe Musu is important as “this is our families’ foremost interest”.
