VP Taylor Takes COVID Discourse to UAE -Face-to-Face With Supreme Ruler At Global Citizens Forum

As Liberia makes substantial progress in the fight against the deadly Coronavirus pandemic which is reportedly surging in many countries, the Vice President of Liberia, Chief Jewel Howard Taylor, has been spreading the Liberian success story and intensifying President Weah’s message on equitable access to vaccines, particularly to the developing world. Her latest stop was the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where she was one of the keynote speakers and only female government official attending the Global Citizens Forum. The Liberian Vice President was quite vocal in calling on the international community, particularly pharmaceutical companies, to move fast in increasing the production of COVID vaccines as a solution for bringing to an ultimate end of the pandemic. The Analyst reports.

Last Sunday, the Vice President of Liberia, Chief Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor, was in the United Arab Emirates attending the Global Citizens Forum as a Special Guest. He was the only top female government official to attend this year’s Forum.

Global leaders, philanthropists, acclaimed artists, athletes, entrepreneurs, and world-class economists convened in Ras Al Khaimah to lead conversations on human mobility and steps towards a more sustainable future.

It was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, The Future in Motion — A New Momentum for Human Mobility from 12-13 December at the Al Hamra International Exhibition & Conference Centre.

The event followed a partnership between the Global Citizen Forum, a social action platform driven by a community of leaders committed to unlocking opportunities in global citizenship, and Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA), which has set its sights on becoming a regional leader in sustainable tourism by 2025.

As one of the most culturally rich and diverse global annual gatherings, Global Citizen Forum’s Annual Summits previously hosted in Dubai, Toronto, Monaco and Sveti Stefan have each welcomed more than 500 guests from over 65 countries.

Dr.  Howard-Taylor the only female of Government on the opening, had the opportunity to speak about Africa Post COVID and recovery plans.

During her deliberations, she spoke that Africa was not the originator of the pandemic, yet most African Nations continue to keep their doors open.

She also said the incident numbers have, thankfully, remained very low in Liberia due to the seriousness and strategic engagement embarked upon by the Government.

Vice President Taylor expressed concern about how Western nations have begun putting African nations on lockout as a result of the new Omicron variant while allowing their citizens to travel. She described the attitude as unfair.

But Liberian stateswoman and Second in Command was quick to point out that humans may have to learn to live with this virus and so must begin to look at means for survival.

She also called on countries to pool their funds together to purchase what was needed and partnering with Pharmaceutical companies to establish manufacturing plants on the Continent of Africa as a way of fighting the virus. She also called for rigorous following of COVID protocols.

The Liberian Vice President also had an opportunity during the 2-day Summit to meet with the Ruler to speak about Liberia.

The Ruler expressed his gratitude that Dr. Taylor accepted the invitation to attend the Summit and looked forward to working with her shortly.
