MONROVIA –  Late yesterday evening, unconfirmed news started filtering in that former Vice President Joseph Nyuma Boakai had suddenly fallen ill and had to be rushed to a local hospital for treatment. While attempts to get clarity from authoritative sources close to the Unity Party Standard Bearer about his medical condition got stonewalled, get-well-soon messages continued to flood the Internet, suggesting that indeed something had gone amiss regarding VP Boakai’s health that might have caused a stir among the general public. But in the wake of the mounting speculations, the Unity Party has provided an official position on their political leader’s medical condition, laying to rest rumors suggesting that Ambassador Boakai is critically ill.

According to the Unity Party, in a very short press release issued 10:00 pm Tuesday, January 10, 2023 and posted on the social media platform of Mr. George Saah, Press Secretary to VP Boakai, “the Former Vice President and Standard Bearer of the Unity Party (UP), His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., checked himself into the local Hospital Sunday, January 8, 2023, for precautionary health reasons when he felt a bit under the weather.

“The Office of the Former Vice President and Standard Bearer of the Unity Party wishes to inform the public that Ambassador Boakai is now feeling better at the local hospital, and is expected to be discharged soon.
