MONROVIA – Vision Basketball Liberia (VBL), through its Chairman Jake Kabakole, has launched the Monrovia Madness ALLSTAR Basketball festival.
Speaking at the launching ceremony in Monrovia, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, Mr. Kabakole said the Madness is about transforming and redefining sports in country.
According him the festival will play host to a very competitive basketball tournament which will bring to together ten vibrant teams from around the Monrovia metropolitan to celebrate basketball and friendship.
“Please join us we create an unforgettable experience that showcase talent, teamwork, and community spirit,” he pleaded with fans and games.
According to him, the ten communities will be competing for a trophy under the title, “Who Owns Monrovia”, adding that the event will be held from Wednesday, April 2nd to Sunday, April 6 at the SKD Basketball Gymnasium.
“We will open the festival with a second to none, Liberian ALLSTAR Musical Concert, featuring a parade of Liberia’s Finest Musical Artists. The basketball competition goes into full swing on the 3rd of April,” he noted.
He noted that the tournament will also feature exhibition games between four outstanding old-timers’ basketball teams, and two female teams.
The festival will climax with a special honoring program and awards dinner night, Kabakole said, adding that this year’s tournament champion will earn the prestigious honor of having a newly built community basketball court named after a legendary figure who has significantly impacted basketball development in Liberia.
“We are committed to making this tournament an annual tradition,” he said, noting it will feature the Duport Road, Old Road / Cabra, Barnesville, Gardnerville, Logan Town, New Kru Town, Brewerville, Central Monrovia, Sinkor, ELWA among others.
“Our goal is to revitalize the essence of competitive basketball through this event, showcasing emerging talent while fostering unity and camaraderie among active and inactive young players,” said.
Mr. Kabakole also disclosed that the mission extends to emphasizing the significance of education and the holistic development of basketball in Liberia.
