UP Provides Clarity

Following waves of misconceptions and deliberate misinformation about the decision reached by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Unity Party on Friday, September 3, 2021, the party wishes to make the below clarity:

“That the UP did not host a National Convention or a Mini-Convention on said day. The meeting held was a NEC meeting in accordance with Article X Section 1 and 5 of the UP’s constitution.

“That the UP NEC did not, in its sitting, elect Amb. Joseph Nyuma Boakai as its Standard Bearer. The NEC reaffirmed Amb. Boakai as its Standard Bearer and endorsed him as its Aspirant for the Collaborating Political Party (CPP) Standard Bearer selection processes.

“The UP also likes to clarify publications in newspapers and social media that there are divisions in the party or there are disagreements within the Executive Committee, relating to the decisions to reaffirm the party’s support to Amb. Joseph N. Boakai as Standard Bearer of the party and also to endorse him to participate in the CPP’s selection processes for Standard Bearer, are totally false and misleading. In its sitting, the NEC debated for hours and made several strategic decisions on the future and prospects of the party. All decisions taken were done in accordance with democratic principles and the ethical values we stand for.

“The Unity Party remains determined to have its SB win the CPP’s Presidential slot and reassures the public and partisans that we continue to maintain cordial and progressive relationships with all parties in the CPP. However, we will not interfere in the politics of any other party or undermine the authority of the CPP leadership which we are poised to assume in October, 2021.

“On another note, the leadership of the Unity Party warns all partisans against making statements on behalf of the Party. The only ones authorized to make official statements on behalf of the Party are: Partisan Amin Modad, National Chairman; Partisan Mohammed Ali, National Secretary General and Partisan Cornelia Kruah-Togba, National Assistant Secretary General for Press, Publicity and Outreach”, the party said in a  press release last evening  and signed by its National Secretary General, Mohammed Ali.
