Taking Innovation Beyond Borders -CSA Chief Wants West African Public Service Institutions Framework Established

Joekai, Jr. In less than a year of incumbency, the ripple effectives of his transformation strides at the General Services Agency (CSA) are noted by his colleagues, employees at the CSA and the general public. It looks like he is transposing such a passion and innovation across the borders, to his West African counterparts, with a potentially far-reaching recommendation at a forum in Côte d’Ivoire to be established what will be called the West African Public Service Institutions framework to serve as platform for knowledge exchange, experience sharing, and technical support. Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire – The Director General of the Civil Service Agency (CSA) of Liberia, Hon. Josiah F. Joekai, Jr., has proposed the establishment of a West African Public Service Institutions framework.

This significant proposal was presented today, November 29, 2024, during Hon. Joekai’s meeting with the Ministry of State for Public Administration, Reform, and Modernization of Côte d’Ivoire.

The proposed framework is envisioned to foster collaboration among public service institutions across West Africa, creating a platform for knowledge exchange, experience sharing, and technical support. Speaking in Abidjan, Hon. Joekai emphasized the importance of this initiative in promoting efficient and effective governance across the region.

In a statement from Abidjan, Ivorian authorities expressed strong support for the proposal, commending Hon. Joekai’s passionate appeal. They pledged to collaborate with the CSA to ensure the successful planning and execution of the proposed West African Regional Conference of Public Service Commissions and Agencies, scheduled to be held in Monrovia in late January 2025.

The meeting in Abidjan is one of several engagements Hon. Joekai is conducting with institutions in Côte d’Ivoire to strengthen governance and support Liberia’s ongoing public service reform efforts.

Hon. Joekai’s visit was facilitated by AGIC International, a consortium of organizations committed to supporting CSA’s reform initiatives and other sectors in Liberia. Additionally, the CSA is in discussions with HeDPAC, a global South-South health organization that advocates for healthy communities in Africa and the Caribbean. In a related development, the CSA, the Ministry of Health, and HeDPAC are set to formalize their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering a healthier workforce in Liberia.
