MONROVIA – The attention of the Liberia Media Initiative for Transparency and Accountability (LIMITA) has been drawn to an allegation of rape levied against the high earned character of the Minister of Internal Affairs Mr. Francis Nyumalin whose focus is placed on ensuring that the ARREST agenda of President Joseph N. Boakai is achieved.
According to a release issued by LIMITA, it is a common thing in Liberia for people character to be maligned for political reasons, LIMITA wants to clearly state that the allegation against Mr. Nyumalin made on a local radio station with both local and international followers has no iota truth, misleading, malicious, and is intended to damage the impeccable character of a statesman, a father, and someone who has championed the cause for “the he for she advocacy”.
LIMITA said “We can state here for the record that Minister Nyumalin over the years has not, and will never engage in such immoral act based on his traditional and social upbringing which require value and respect for women and the rule of law. A father of several girls, and a brother of several sisters, Minister Nyumalin has always endeavor to protect the rights of women ensuring that all are treated fairly under the law regardless of tribal affiliation, societal status, or political connection”.
“We are aware that politics in Liberia now a day has reshaped ideas, and is used to target people for some unknown, or personal reasons. In this case, we are also aware that people use others as political pawns to achieve selfish agenda thereby damaging the high earned reputation of others who have worked over the years to establish themselves”, the group said.
According to LIMITA “with the gravity of such allegation, it is only fair to avail the accuser who cannot be seen nor identified to come forth with compelling evidence so as to adjudicate the matter instead of running a media propaganda intended to smear the character of an illustrious minister who is carrying on his functions in his capacity”.
LIMITA further said “We believe that this is a form of blackmail squarely intended to distract the public’s attention from the success of a hardworking individual thereby be-clouding all of the successes made over a short period of time.
In concluding, LIMITA indicated that it be known that “we are in a vulnerable society, and a toxic political environment that allow people to spew out fallacies against people who try to effect change and do away with the normal. We urge who so ever involved in this ploy to be bold and come forth to the public to face the accused and not to use the media in pushing their selfish agenda”.
