Southeast Goes Gay For Pres. Weah -Awashed with Red Carpet Welcome -Cruises Through G/Gedeh, River Gee Already

President George Manneh Weah was given a red carpet welcome when he entered Grand Gedeh County on Thursday, February 19, 2021 as part of his ongoing County tour and intermittently disembarked from his convoy as he made stops along the route into major towns in the County including Toe Town, Zleh Town, Zai Town, Tuzon and Zwedru where he dedicated several projects and the ground breaking of a major hospital in the county. The President’s visit was greeted by hundreds of thousands of enthusiastic people made of citizens and residents lining up along the routes leading to major corridors to welcome the President into the county; The Analyst reports.

Reminiscent of the historic entry of Jesus into Jerusalem in biblical days, the people of the Southeastern county of Grand Gedeh came out in their numbers to receive the President and entourage with a heroic welcome as he made his way into the major towns of the county. The President’s first stop was in Toe Town – the boundary region of Grand Gedeh with Nimba County, where the President was received by chiefs, elders, ordinary residents and other officials of the county with appropriate traditional rites befitting a visit of the President.

While in Grand Gedeh, President Weah dedicated several projects including the housing units constructed by his government to remove citizens from dilapidated structures in Kpelle Village.  He also dedicated a newly constructed annex to the Grand Gedeh County Community College (GGCC), and the 7th Judicial Circuit Court Complex on the outskirts of Zwedru which began under the former administration of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and completed in 2018, the year he assumed the presidency of Liberia. The Court Complex Annex Project was dedicated with adequate representation of Chief Justice Francis Korkpor through his proxy, Cllr. Elizabeth B. Nelson who thanked the President for the dedicating the building.

Besides dedication of projects, President Weah also broke ground for a $15.5 million dollars 160 bedroom referral hospital project shortly upon entering county. The President said the Hospital Project will be funded by the Governments of Liberia and Germany through the German Development Bank (KFW), and is to be implemented by Welthungergilfe (WHH) Liberia in support of the government’s development agenda under the PAPD. The Hospital which is expected to occupy an area of 8,513.84 square meters will benefit around 160,000 persons, and construction works will last for 48 months in keeping with its blueprints.

Speaking further at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Hospital in Grand Gedeh Saturday, President Weah thanked the German government through its Ambassador, saying that the project is an outcome of the peace existing in the county.

“We appreciate the partnership between us. It’s an outcome of the peace you have maintained here. Hope you will work tirelessly for the project to be completed,” the President said.

Earlier at a Town Hall Meeting in Toe Town, the first of the stops made in the county, President Weah thanked the people of Grand Gedeh for the heartfelt and tumultuous reception accorded him, noting “I am not surprised to receive such gigantic welcome. I am your son, and this is my county,” Dr. Weah, overwhelmed by the reception, said.

Commenting on several issues of national importance, the Liberian Leader lauded the people of the county for maintaining peace and security since the departure of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) few years ago, and reminded the people of the county of the importance of keeping and maintaining the peace of the country, without which he said development is unrealizable.

On the issue of the presence of Burkinabees in Liberia, President Weah urged citizens of Grand Gedeh to work with citizens from other countries, stating that Liberia respects international protocols. He said the ECOWAS protocols which Liberia accedes to allow for free movement of citizens from one country to another.

Relative to support for farmers and other business people, the President said the Government of Liberia in collaboration with partners has put aside millions of United States Dollars to support Liberia’s farmers and businesses. President Weah also announced plans to work with the National Legislature to put in place a loan scheme for local farmers in the national budget.

Grand Gedeh County is the third stop of the first leg of the President’s six-county tour, which has already taken place in Bong and Nimba Counties.

The President who is presently in River Gee county having arrived Sunday and has been inspecting ongoing projects and holding meetings with local authorities and citizens will depart the county today for Maryland County in continuation of the tour and will end the journey in Grand Kru County, his home county.
