Nimba County lawmaker Musa Hassan Bility has called on Nimbaians to embody servant leadership and work towards building a better Liberia.

Speaking as guest speaker at the UNICCO Board Leadership Installation Ceremony on October 11, 2025, he emphasized the importance of unity, patriotism, and collective effort in shaping the nation’s future.

Bility stressed that leadership is not about seeking recognition, but about accepting responsibility, saying, “Leadership is not the pursuit of recognition. It is the acceptance of responsibility.”

According to him, what gives leadership its value is not the seat “we occupy, but the legacy we leave behind”.

He urged the newly installed UNICCO leadership team to lead with sacrifice, noting that “the greatest measure of your success will not be how much you achieve for yourself, but how much you give to others.”

Bility highlighted the crucial role the Liberian diaspora plays in national development, citing their contributions to remittances, funding schools and hospitals, and building bridges between nations and generations.

“You are an essential pillar of national development,” he said referring to Liberians abroad. “Your most powerful contribution is the transfer of knowledge, values, and integrity that you bring back home.”

Acknowledging Nimba’s history of strength and resilience, Bility encouraged citizens of the country, both at home and abroad, to use their unity to build an economy of inclusion, empowering farmers, teachers, miners, and innovators.

“Let our resilience evolve into responsibility,” he said, and added: “Let us be known not only for our courage in hardship, but for our wisdom in peace.”

Bility called for a collective effort to rebuild Liberia, emphasizing that the nation’s future cannot be shaped by government alone. “We must redefine patriotism as participation,” he said.

“Come home not just with your money, but with your mindset — a mindset that insists on transparency, accountability, and results,” he told his Nimba brethren.

Highlighting the importance of empowering women and youth, Bility noted that the Women Empowerment Center in Gompa City is more than a building, but a symbol of justice, urging leaders to prioritize the empowerment of women and girls.

“Let every girl know that her dreams are valid, her voice matters, and her future must not depend on permission from anyone,” Bility, also the political leader of the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC), said.

Bility also emphasized the importance of unity in diversity, noting that Nimba’s diversity must be a strength, not a weakness.

“Let us build a Liberia where a person’s origin does not define their opportunity, where justice is not selective, and where leadership is not for a few, but for all,” he stressed.

In his closing remarks, Bility charged the new UNICCO leadership team to “lead with vision, lead with humility, and above all, lead with love for the people you serve.”
