MONROVIA: One month ago, Sanniquellie was a scene of joy as asphalt pavement reached the historic city credited for the creation of what is today the African Union.
ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML), one of the world’s largest mining and steel manufacturing firms globally has committed $45 million to pave the road that links Ganta and Yekepa.
The project is being implemented by the government of Liberia through CSE, a construction firm.
As many citizens continue to praise AML for her generous donation to the people of Liberia, Sanniquellie City, Mayor Maima Y. Kamara has added voice to the wave of commendations.
She praised ArcelorMittal and the Government of Liberia for the project and said it was wonderful, and a milestone achievement for the Weah administration to have the project reached her city.
In a brief chat with Nimba D-9 TV reporter- Mellish Gbor, the major said, the road pavement means a lot not just to the people of Sanniquellie but the towns and villages that surround the city.
According to her, businesses, healthcare provision, and education will be enhanced greatly when the road is completed, and “it will benefit us a lot because the road is also connected to the borders with Ivory Coast and Guinea”.
The Sanniquellie major also explained how streets are getting paved across the city, through the help of ArcelorMittal and the President of Liberia.
“With the road construction businesspeople are no longer having major problems while bringing their goods into the market like they did before.”
Said Major Kamara: “They and their goods will not stay long hours on the highway just between Ganta-Sanniquellie is now less than 35mins”.
She believes this will boost economic activities in Sanniquellie and Nimba as a whole, the fact that Sanniquellie is the political capital of Nimba.
“The people of Nimba County are grateful to ArcelorMittal-Liberia for committing $40 million outside of its operational budget for the pavement of Ganta to Yekepa,” she said.
“I also want to thank President George Weah for implementing the project through the Ministry of Public Work. We all know how ArcelorMittal-Liberia has been very much instrumental to the development of the County.”
In conclusion, the mayor is requesting AML to aid the Sanniquellie City Corporation with a truck for the garbage disposal to keep the city clean as the road has beautified Sanniquellie in unexpected ways. Reported By Mellish Gbor
