‘Reckless, Baseless’ -ANC Doubles Down on MICAT, Accuses GoL of Failing Liberians

MONROVIA – In a bold stance, the Alternative National Congress (ANC) has fired back at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT) over what it calls a “reckless and baseless”” attack on its Political Leader, Alexander B. Cummings. In a strongly-worded press conference, the ANC accused the government of failing to address the country’s pressing issues and instead resorting to personal attacks on opposition figures. The party outlined several areas where the government has fallen short, including the economy, healthcare, and corruption fight. The Analyst reports.

The Alternative National Congress (ANC) has responded to recent statements made by Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism, Jerolinmek Piah, who criticized ANC Political Leader Alexander B. Cummings.

In a press conference held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, the ANC condemned Piah’s remarks as “reckless, baseless, and politically motivated,” and accused the government of failing to address the country’s pressing issues.

“The Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism has been reduced to a political attack center, where lies, propaganda, and insults against political opponents are manufactured and distributed,” the ANC stated.

“Piah’s daily habit of vilifying critics of the Boakai administration has brought shame upon the office he occupies and the already failing government.”

The ANC said about the MICAT boss: “In one of his recent alcoholic outbursts, Piah described Mr a statement that exposes not only Piah’s Cummings as a dishonest man desperation but also his abuse of public office and constant drunkenness.

“As a supposedly Information Minister, Piah is constitutionally mandated to provide truthful, factual, and transparent information to the Liberian people about the actions of the government. Unfortunately, instead of honoring that sacred duty for which he’s collecting fat salary and huge benefits from taxpayers’ money monthly, the loose talker has reduced the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism to a political attack center, where lies, propaganda, and insults against political opponents are manufactured and distributed.”

The ANC reminded Piah that his position requires dignity, integrity, and accountability, not gutter and semblance of diarrhea of the mouth politics.

“His daily habit of vilifying critics of the Boakai administration has brought shame upon the office he occupies and the already failing government,” the party said.

The ANC outlined several areas where the government has failed, including the economy.

“The government’s policies have led to skyrocketing prices of basic commodities, business closures, and stagnant salaries,” the party said. “The government’s lack of fiscal discipline and poor leadership have plunged our people deeper into poverty and despair.”

The party also highlighted the collapse of the healthcare system, citing lack of medicines, equipment, and supplies in hospitals and clinics.

“The healthcare system is in a state of complete collapse, with hospitals and clinics lacking basic medicines, equipment, and supplies,” the ANC stated. “The government has made no investment in improving hospital infrastructure, healthcare worker salaries, or rural health services.”

Furthermore, the ANC accused the government of failing to address the drug crisis, corruption, and poor governance, asserting that “The government came to power preaching integrity and accountability but has delivered only deceit, secrecy, and corruption.”

The ANC said. “Piah and his boss, President Boakai, are in no moral position to call anyone dishonest. They are the architects of dishonesty – men who campaigned on promises of reform but now preside over an administration defined by hypocrisy, incompetence, and betrayal.”

Rather than peddling lies about Mr. Cummings, we challenge the stray-dog of a Minister to face the truth and inform the Liberian people about the real crises confronting our nation crises that the Unity Party-led government is failing miserably to address.

The ANC called on the government to focus on addressing the country’s crises rather than attacking opposition figures.

“Piah must stop abusing his office and start performing his duties,” the party said. “The Liberian people are suffering, the nation is bleeding, and time is running out. Liberia deserves better leadership with vision, honesty, and compassion.”

In conclusion, the ANC reaffirmed its commitment to speaking truth to power and defending the interests of the Liberian people.

“We will continue to expose its lies, challenge its failures, and confront its dishonesty – boldly, publicly, and unapologetically,” the party stated.

“Mr. Cummings represents that hope. Long live Mr. Alexander B. Cummings! Long live the ANC! Long live the people of Liberia!”

Hitting the Liberian Chief Executive hard, the ANC noted: “Under the luxury-driven President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s leadership, the Liberian economy has collapsed into hopelessness. Prices of basic commodities -rice, gasoline, transportation, and even drinking water have skyrocketed beyond the reach of ordinary citizens. The cost of living is unbearable, while salaries remain stagnant or unpaid in some cases.”

“Even more shameful is the fact that the exchange rate has dropped drastically, yet market prices remain high. This clearly proves that the problem is not the exchange rate, but the gross mismanagement, incompetence, and lack of economic control under the Boakai administration. While the Liberian dollar strengthens on paper, the Liberian people continue to suffer in reality.

“Businesses are closing, civil servants are protesting daily, either against bad labour practices or low wages, investors are fleeing, or job opportunities have disappeared. The government’s lack of fiscal discipline and poor leadership have plunged our people deeper into poverty and despair. Instead of building an economy that empowers Liberians, this administration is busy rewarding political cronies and engaging in secretive deals, such as the questionable procurement of the 82 yellow machines, about which the propaganda Minister continues to remain silent. If Piah truly serves the public, he would explain the bidding process, the source of funding, and the beneficiaries of those contracts -not divert attention with political insults.”

The ANC calls on officials of government to pay keen attention to the failures and challenges that the government is faced with, which includes the very bad state of the economy with primary focus on the bread and butter issues.

“The slow and ineffective execution of its own ARREST AGENDA the mountainous degree of opulence by the officials of this government, as manifested in the purchase of luxurious vehicles from the Presidency to Ministers of government, including Piah,” the party observed.

It added: “Is this not dishonesty? Can you imagine, fellow Liberians, the Unity Party government is purchasing vehicles for its officials at ninety thousand US dollars (US $90,000) a piece, while many citizens cannot afford a meal or simple medication? Is this really a ‘Rescue Mission’ or a Ransacking Mission?”
