The Press Union of Liberia has condemned the recent electoral violence in the Clara Town Community, District #14 Montserrado County. The PUL in a release, expressed dismayed over the weekend violence in the Clara Town community between supporters of the governing Coalition for Democratic Change and Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon.
A press release issued yesterday says such chaos ahead of the pending midterm senatorial elections has the potential of escalating into a full scale electoral violence if care is not urgently taken and leadership brought to bear, Union stressed.
Liberian Politics and accompanying civil discourses can only thrive in an environment where political opponents are tolerable of dissimilar views on the governance of the country, the PUL averred.
The Press Union of Liberia latest position comes in the face of increasing political division in the country compounded by far-reaching decline in economic activities throughout the country.
This Clara Town Violence is the second time that opposition politicians have come under attack from supporters of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change; the first was witnessed in Grand Gedeh County.
Meanwhile, the PUL is again urging the Weah Administration to ensure the protection of all Liberians in the exercise of their franchise including the political opposition ahead of the midterm elections. The Union is also calling on the opposition specifically Sen. Abraham Darius Dillon to double down on retaliatory stands on attacks against them like the one employed in Clara Town during the weekend because such action only fuels more violence, the release concluded .
