MONROVIA – The Press Union of Liberia cordially invites all of its members, journalists, and professionals working in media development to gather at the Union Headquarters on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. to begin the commemoration of World Press Freedom Day.
The event this year will take place in Monrovia under the theme: “Shaping a Future of Rights: Freedom of Expression as a Driver for All Other Human Rights”. The occasion is a reminder that all other human rights are made possible by freedom of expression.
The PUL’s commemoration of World Press Freedom Day begins with a customary walk of journalists through the principal streets of Monrovia, capped by an indoor program at the Monrovia City Hall where Commissioner Patmillia Doe Paivey of the Independent National Human Rights Commission will serve as keynote speaker.
World Press Freedom Day 2023 in Liberia is seeking to reignite conversations on the ongoing works the relevant stakeholders such as the Center for Media Studies & Peacebuilding (CEMESP), Publishers Association of Liberia, Accountability Lab, iLab, Lonestar Cell/MTN Liberia, the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs & Tourism, the National Legislature and the Governance Commission have done to champion rights in the country.
