In the wake of frantic efforts to improve the Liberian music and movie industries through the modernization of entertainment; President George Manneh Weah has constructed and dedicated a modern theater and recording studio named “Unification Theater of Arts” in Paynesville outside Monrovia.
According to president Weah, The one hundred and sixty-two (162) seated theater is intended to help promote Liberia’s arts in both the musical and movie arena that addresses the needs of artists across the country which is currently open to the public for business transaction.
The construction of the theater and recording studio by President George Manneh Weah is in response to the numerous challenges faced by Liberian artists, particularly those in the entertainment sector.
The Unification Theater of Arts is indeed situated in the neighborhood of the newly established Forky Klon Family Fellowship mainly designed to provide modern, high-tech facilities that give unrestrained control to Liberians in the histrionic industry.
“It is now my pleasure to officially welcome you and declared the Unification Theater of Arts open and ready for business for the first time in our country transition said President George Weah.
The dedication ceremony was witnessed by several government officials including House Speaker Bhofal Chambers, Senate Pro Tempore Albert Chie, Minister of State Nathaniel McGill, NPA boss Bill Twelway amongst others as well as representatives of Liberia’s music and movie unions and members of the Liberian track-and-field team that recently won the 2019 medals in the Special Olympics held in the United Arab Emirates.
Meanwhile, the opening ceremony was indeed graced by massive entertainment of invited guests in the presence of one of Liberia’s international movie star currently serves as the president of LIMU , Frank Artus.
Speaking at dedication ceremony of the theater on Sunday, April 14, 2019, Liberia Movies Union (LIMU) president Gregory Artus Frank lauded President Weah for the great adventure and noted that the platform will enable Liberians to showcase their hidden talents and limit the travel of artist to other countries in search of quality production.
He said the initiative taken by the Liberian leader should have been in the last twelve or six years, believing that such move could have improved the Liberia entertainment better than its current status.
Also speaking at the ceremony, Liberian Artists including Paul Flomo and Joseph Dean lauded the president for promoting Liberian entertainment and recommend the establishment of a theater college at the state run university.
