Petro Bombs Thrown At NEC

In the midst of election result disputes, protestations and outstanding election matters growing from the 2020 Midterm Senatorial election, the Headquarters of the National Elections Commission (NEC) has been bombed by unknown individuals whose identity are yet to be known

But reports quoted the Liberian National Police as saying that they are reportedly investigating the attacks which led to the destruction of lives and properties.

Already, the National Elections Commission, (NEC) strongly condemns an arson attack on its 9th Street premises, which the Commission said in a release happened on late evening Monday at about 10:30pm. The Commission says unknown persons threw the petrol bombs on the compound of the NEC Headquarters which set ablaze a double cabin pickup, marked LB-6868 and burnt the zine roof of the garage, estimating the cost of the damages to about US$45, 000.

“Preliminary investigation proved additional unexploded petrol bombs were found near the NEC fence on the 10th Street side, “the NEC release indicated, noting that the National Elections Commission is supporting the Liberian National Police’s investigation into the arson attack on its premises in the hope that perpetrators will be found and brought to justice.

Meanwhile, authorities of the Liberia National Police have informed the Elections Commission that they will strengthen security at the compound of the Elections Commission, a release signed by Mr. Prince Dunbar, acting deputy communication director concluded

Besides the NEC scenario, it was early said that another petrol bomb was thrown into the compound of Associate Justice Joseph Nagbe recently. There has been further information regarding the Justice Nagbe Scenario.

Recently, some citizens of Lofa have been demanding the certification of Senator elect Brownie Samukai, whose certification has been delayed by NEC due to his conviction of misapplication of funds belonging to some AFL soldiers, even though the full bench of the Supreme Court of Liberia has declared him the winner with instruction to NEC to certificate the senator.
