MONROVIA: Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor has said giving President George Manneh Weah a one round victory on October 10, 2023 will not only be a profound way of Liberians paying him back for the stellar leadership quality he has exhibited and the number of development projects he has delivered to the country and its people in his first term, it will also save the country from the much needed fund from being spent on a round off competition between the President and any of the opposition who will come next to him in the first round.
VP Taylor made the statement on Thursday, August 17, 2023 in Johnsonville, District #2, Montserrado County when she addressed thousands of citizens and residents while introducing President Weah during a campaign rally to solicit for support from the people towards the October 10, 2023 general elections.
“We are going for the one round victory and do you know why we want one round? It is because the president has too much work to do, we do not want to go to the second round to waste his time and waste money. The money that we will use for the second round could be used to bring more development for our people. It could be used to build more roads, build more schools and open other opportunities for our young people who this President has over the years inspired and encouraged to rise up, learn some, apply what they have learned in order to be useful citizens”, she said.
The hardworking VP who has accompanied the President on all the campaign tours since the official declaration of the campaign period urged the people to come out early on the election day and “go all out to vote with anger” to ensure that the one round objective is achieved. “So get up early in the morning, get your family members, friends and neighbors first thing in the morning and move to the polling unit, take the ballot papers, look at them well and tick President Weah and I and all the CDC candidates on the ballot papers and return quietly to your residence to wait for the results”, she said.
She also urged the first time voters who form a good number of young people to ensure that they protect their future by voting for CDC presidential ticket and all candidates of the CDC so that during the second term of the President he will be able to consolidate on the gains of his first term and bring more meaningful developments for the country and its people.
Describing the President as “Father of the nation”, the VP said the young people can bear witness of the number of interventions the President has made to provide a reward future for them through the payment of the WASSCE fees for 12 graders throughout the country and the tuition free initiative for students attending public tertiary institutions in the country. She said there will be additional packages for skills acquisitions which will give them the pathway for gainful employment so as to prepare for their future.
She also used the occasion to call on the women to get on the campaign train to encourage their people to vote for the CDC tickets and assured them that they will always be at the center of empowerment during the second term of the President.
“Montserrado County is resolved that we are all on this journey to 18th street to secure our future and the future of our children and our children’s children. When you are playing football and you are leading, you don’t change your striker. You allow him to remain on the field to continue scoring your opponents until the end.
