The crisis within the opposition Liberty Party took another dimension yesterday, Monday, March 21, 2022 when the Senator Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence led faction of the Liberty Party (LP) announced its decision to pull out of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) citing several reasons among which are that the CPP is beset with a seemingly intractable conflict growing out of the manhandling of the CPP framework document and that the purposes that underpinned the establishment of the CPP, as expressed in the framework can no longer be realized under the circumstances the party finds itself.
In the resolution signed, approved and attested by Mr. Jacob Julius Smith, Senator Steve Zargo and Senator Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence, Secretary General, Chairman and Political Leader respectively, the party took the decision to support the resolution reached by the National Executive Committee of the Liberty Party sitting in Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County from January 28-29, 2022 ordering withdrawal of the party from the collaborating political parties (CPP)
“WHEREAS, it has repeatedly been observed over the past several months that the Alternative National Congress (ANC), one of the Collaborating Parties, has been proceeding in a manner and form that undercuts the spirit and intent of the collaboration, including fueling intra-party conflict within the Liberty Party;
“WHEREAS, the CPP is now further beset with a seemingly intractable conflict growing out of the mishandling of the CPP Framework Document by the ANC during its eight (8) months of leadership as is being demonstrated by multiple acrimonies involving the said ANC and other constituent Political Parties of the CPP which have resulted to litigations contrary to the spirit and determination of the collaboration;
“WHEREAS, as a result of the aforementioned, it has now become glaring that the purposes that underpinned the establishment of the Collaborating Political Parties, as expressed in the Framework Document, can no longer be realized under the circumstances herein stated”, the resolution read.
With respect to the resolution adopted by the Senator Lawrence led faction of the party which met in Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County, it had mandated the National Executive Committee to withdraw the party from the CPP while also it also announced the expulsion of Messrs Musa Hassan Bility and Martin Kollah from the party and replaced some of the county leaderships for their roles in working with the Bility led administration while the crisis was ongoing
The departure of this faction of LP from the CPP has thrown a major blow against it as already the All Liberia Party of Benoni Urey and the former Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai led Unity Party have all parted ways and are said to be exploring other options to form another alliance.
