MONROVIA – The newly inducted President of the University of Liberia Interim Student Leadership (ULSIL), Madam J Blio Tingban has promised what she called “A New Dawn: Forging Unity, Excellence, and Transformational Leadership” for the affairs of students at the University of Liberia”.

Delivering her induction statement at the ceremony yesterday, Thursday, June 26, 2025, Mrs. Tingban said a student government that does not fight for its people is no government at all.

“Our advocacy will not stop only on the Campuses of the University of Liberia, but it will be extended to create a new taste of learning, where extra activities for students will be prioritized and a new design for everyone to show their true potential will be implemented,” she said.

She noted that with everyone onboard, her administration would trigger the activation of all sectors of the University of Liberia that ranges ranging from academic, student’s welfare to sports, talents, amongst other things.

The ULSIL President said, regarding advocacy on student’s welfare, efforts would be made to improve library resources and to demand better sanitation and affordable tuition, doing so with engagement with the UL administration.

“This change will not come from one leader alone; it will come from you the students who hold protests when justice is delayed, the scholars who push for academic excellence, and the dreamers who believe in a better UL,” she noted, adding: “We must not create another problem in an attempt to solve one. This is a new endeavor where our actions of engagement must cut-across between the administration, our students, national stake-holders and the general public.”

The UL female student leader said the song of diplomatic engagement and purposeful dialogue must not depart the hearts and lips of students.

Addressed the UL administration, she said: “We seek partnership, not confrontation. But let it be known that we will no longer accept neglect as a tradition. My administration will be defined by three pillars, Unity in Diversity, Accountable and Transparent Governance, and Advocacy for Student Welfare. I believe this new leadership  headed by Dr. Marpayan has listening ears and she will want to do things differently for a more mutual and cordial relationship between the administration and the students.”

She emphasized further: “The time for adequate facilities, updated curricula, and dignified learning conditions are now, and this is the time that we boldly tell the National Government that the University of Liberia reflects the meaningful strides and reform in the education sector thus, an added attention must be given to this institution.”

The UL students’ president called upon the Student Unification Party SUP, other student organizations, and independent voices to join hands in constructive dialogue, not conflict.

“No more empty promises. We will institute monthly town hall meetings, public financial reports, and an open-door policy to ensure your voices shape every decision,” she also stressed.

Yesterday, the University of Liberia Interim Student Leadership (ULSIL) inducted a new corps officers to spearhead the administration of the students body on the campus of the University of Liberia.

Those inducted into office include: J Blio Tingban President, Abraham Garpehn, Vice President, William Sando Student Representative to the UL Council, and J Hawa Mayanti Financial Secretary, among others.
