NEC, LAXTON Hold Technical Meetings -In preparation for Voters’ Registration

MONROVIA – The National Elections Commission (NEC), on Thursday, February 2, 2023 hosted series of technical meetings with a two- member delegation from the Laxton Group, the preferred vendor for Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) as follow up on training, logistics and preparation for the arrival of the BVR equipment and materials in the country.

The two-member Laxton team is headed by Mr. Nick Perkins, President of Europe, Middle East and Africa and Mr. Rowan Thomas, Vice President for Sales Operations.

According to a press release from NEC and signed by Mr. Prince Dunbar, Deputy Director of Communications, in addition to meetings with the technical staff of the Commission, the Laxton executives made a presentation to members of the Board of Commissioners (BOC), on NEC Biometric Voter Registration process and their readiness to ship Biometric Voter Registration equipment to Liberia.

NEC Boss, Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah in her briefing, informed the Laxton team about the glitches in ensuring contractual arrangements relative to the issuance of the letter of credit is being pursued with the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, (MFDP).

It can be recalled that in the contract with Laxton, the NEC will secure a letter of credit in the full amount of nearly 12 Million United States Dollars to assure the shipment of the Biometric Voter Registration equipment to Liberia.

A statement from the NEC Thursday says, nearly 2-thirds of the funding has been received from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), while 4 million is still outstanding.

The NEC statement issued on Thursday, 2 February 2023, calls on the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, MFDP to make good its commitment to urgently provide the remaining funds appropriated in the 2022 budget.
