MONROVIA: As part of efforts to regulate the higher institutions of learning in Liberia, the Executive Director of the National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE), Dr. Edward Lama Wonkeryor has called on the Administration of Hill City University of Science and Technology-Liberia to offer competitive salaries and merit based systems to attract top talents

Dr. Wonkeryor made the recommendations on Saturday August 31, 2024 when he delivered a statement at the matriculation and convocation ceremony of Hill-City University of Science & Technology in Sinkor, Monrovia.

He admonished the university’s administration to offer salaries that reflect the qualifications, experience, and contributions of faculty members.

The NCHE boss said “Competitive salaries do not only attract top talent, they also reduces turnover and boosts morale. Regularly benchmarking salaries against similar institutions can help ensure that compensation remains fair and competitive,” added

He also recommended to the institution further, “Implement a system of merit-based pay increases or bonuses in order to incentivize faculty members to excel in their teaching, research, and service roles. This approach rewards those who go above and beyond in their duties, fostering a culture of excellence.”

“I leave you with this thought: the world is in need of leaders who are not only knowledgeable, but also compassionate and ethical.

“As you leave this institution, carry with you the lessons learned, the friendships made, and the experiences that have shaped you. The future is yours to shape, and I have no doubt that you will do so with wisdom, courage, and integrity,” he said.

The Liberian Educator also added, “The rapid pace of technological advancement, economic uncertainties, and the ongoing fight against social inequalities require graduates who are not only well-educated, but also adaptable and innovative.”

Hill City University of Science and Technology is a higher institution of learning that is accredited by the National Commission on Higher Education and offers bachelor degrees in various disciplines; its parent body in the Benin Republic.
