Mainland Chinese Celebrate Momentous Victory Day -Amb. Yin Pays Tribute of World’s Anti-Fascist War Zeroes
MONROVIA – Eighty (80) years ago, people of different countries, social systems and ideologies united to defeat the dark and evil forces of fascism and won the victory of peace and justice, and this is particularly a momentous day for the People’s Republic of China which is lavishly this year, as it has always been, celebrating the anniversary of the historic feat. At a gathering to watch a documentary called, The Sinking of the Lisban Maru, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Yin Chengwu, made removing remarks at which time he paid his highest tribute to the heroes of all countries who fought for the victory. Chinese Ambassador near Monrovia, Yin Chengwu, has been hailing those he called heroes and agents of victory during the anti-fascist war 80 years ago for risking their lives.

In a moment, we will watch a documentary, The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru, true historical events, telling the story of Chinese fishermen who risked their lives to rescue British prisoners of war they had never met before, Ambassador Yin recalled that in December 1941, the Japanese fascist forces occupied Hong Kong, then still a British colony, and by late September 1942, the Japanese ship Lisbon Maru, carrying British POWs, departed from Hong Kong for Japan and in in three days into its voyage, it was torpedoed in the waters of China’s Dongji Island.
As the ship sinking, he further recalled, that British POWs broke out of the holds and leapt into the sea, only to face brutal slaughter by the Japanese troops. “At this moment of life and death, more than a hundred Chinese fishermen rowed their small fishing boats through dangerous waters, risking their own lives to save the British POWs.”
“They demonstrated extraordinary moral responsibility and international humanitarianism. It is a heavy but true piece of history, which denounces the crimes of Japanese fascism and reflects the courage and dignity of the Chinese people and British soldiers,” Mr. Yin narrated.
He said, the experience of war makes people value peace all the more—which is the purpose of commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War is not to continue hatred, but to bear history in mind, honor all those who laid down their lives, cherish peace and open up the future.
He said during World War II, China and Liberia stood together as members of the anti-fascist alliance; China was the main Eastern battlefield, the backbone of resistance against Japanese militarism, and made decisive contributions to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War.
“Under the Chinese united front against Japanese aggression, initiated and led by the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people marched forward fearlessly and fought as one, making tremendous sacrifices to defeat the Japanese militarists, and writing a glorious chapter in the victory of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.”
Liberia, for its part, ensured a steady supply of rubber to the Allied forces, provided crucial logistical support including the use of its airports and seaports, and saw some of its citizens volunteering to join the Allied military, making important contributions to the common victory.
Looking back on that epic history, from the soldiers who fought bravely to the unknown ordinary people, Ambassador Yin indicated, every action that chose justice and stick to conscience deserves to be remembered and honored for all time.
“Today, transformations of the world unseen in a century are unfolding at a faster pace. Changes of the world, of our times, and of the historical trajectory are taking place in ways like never before,” he continued, adding, “Once again, humanity has come to a crossroads of unity or division, dialogue or confrontation, win-win cooperation or zero-sum games. Only by treasuring peace and upholding unity can humanity embrace a brighter future.”
He said China will unswervingly defend the outcomes of the World Anti-Fascist War, pursue peaceful development, safeguard world peace and promote the building of a world of lasting peace and common prosperity.
“We sincerely hope that all nations can draw inspirations and strength from history, uphold peaceful development, and work together to build a future full of peace and hope,” the Chinese diplomat further emphasized, calling for the joining holding “to commemorate and remember history, safeguard peace through unity, and pass on the common conscience and hope of mankind through action. Let us work together to build a community with a shared future for humanity.”
