LP Convention in Ganta Halted -Partisan Emmanuel Azango Files Preliminary Writ of Injunction

As Nimba County’s historic Gompa City prepares to host a two-day National Convention of the opposition Liberty Party (LP) today, wherein 13 out of 15 County Chairpersons of the Party endorsed the outcome of today’s Meeting of the National Executive Committee held on November 20, 2021 in Gompa, a preliminary writ of injunction filed by the LP partisan Emmanuel Azango, has put today’s Convention in a tailspin.

According to the Writ of Preliminary Injunction filed by LP partisan Emmanuel Azango against Musa Hassan Bility, Martin Kollah, Wedei Powel, Rugie Barry, Elder Jallah, Kuku dorbor, Nornolyn Bendu Barclay, Powo C. Hilton, and others, the Court has stopped all action(s) planned on behalf of the Liberty Party pending the hearing of these proceedings.

The Preliminary Writ of Injunction further commanded/ordered the Court to issue a notice of preliminary injunction and temporary restraining order, restraining and prohibiting the respondent(s) planned Convention slated today in Ganta, Nimba County or anywhere in the Republic of Liberia from December 17-18, 2021, pending the hearing of this action on or before the 27th day of December A.D. 2021.

“You are also commanded to order the respondents to file their answer/returns and/or appearance in my office on or before the 27th Day of December A.D. 2021, same being the tenth day from the date of the service of these proceedings, and that upon their failure to do so, judgment by default will be rendered against them.

“You are further commanded to make your official return on the back of the writ of petition for preliminary injunction as to the manner of service on or before the 27 day of December A.D. 2021, endorsed at the back of the original writ of petition for preliminary injunction,” the Writ stated.

The Ganta Convention is intended to review the ongoing crises within the party and make decisions in the interest of the party and country, among which is to endorse a Presidential candidate that will lead the ticket of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), according to sources within the party hierarchy.

According to report filed by our Nimba County correspondent who is covering the convention, massive preparations have been completed and that almost all of the delegates who are slated to participate in the program are already in Ganta.

Within the list of those who signed the resolution in favor of the Special Convention , only Romeo Coker and George Gaybueh, Chairpersons for Montserrado and Grand Bassa Counties respectively, did not attend and sign, but the rest of the Chairpersons from the 13 counties including Bong, Bomi, Rivercess, RiverGee, Maryland, Grand Gedeh, Sinoe, Grand Kru, Nimba, Lofa, Grand Cape Mount  and Gbarpolu, all signed to commit themselves to the call for the holding  of a special convention to resolve all the issues in the party.
