LIS Set to Train 500 New Recruits -Gaps Created By CSA Layoff of 300 Expected to be Filled

Following months of intensive scrutiny processes by authorities of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), all is now set for the commencement of the well talk about recruits training at the Service’s training academy in Foya, Lofa County.
Appearing at the Ministry of Information Culture and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefing platform on Thursday October 10, 2024, LIS boss, Atty. Stephen Zargo, reiterated LIS’ commitment in filling the existent gaps created by the Civil Servant Agency (CSA) by laying off over 300 servicepeople.
LIS has fiduciary responsibility to protect Liberia’s air, sea, and land borders, said a release issued. “It therefore has no option but to replace their men expected to be layout soon this year by the CSA.”
Initially, the release asserted, LIS received over nine thousand applicants during the process. But due to its scrutiny processes, thousands drop out before the medical examination conducted during the final stage.
Over 2000 candidates sat the medical test, 1985 candidates passed the medical test, and 500 candidates among those who passed were selected by the LIS due to limited funding available at the moment.
LIS boss Zargo informed the media that the 500 candidates’ selection was based on high points done during the initial recruitment processes.
“We selected the 500 candidates among the 1985 because of high points like 90 to 80 marks,” he stated. “Among the selected 500 candidates, 105 are females.”
According to him, October 14, 2024 is the beginning of the next phase of training at the same venue, Foya.
LIS recent medical testing was conducted by the Africa Union Trading Company, a private medical company operating in Liberia.
