MONROVIA – President’s Joseph Boakai’s envoy Christopher H. Onanuga has reportedly wooed Japanese investors, international stakeholders, and Liberian government officials at the Liberia Business Forum during Expo 2025 Osaka, that his country is open for business.
Special Envoy to the President of Liberia on Tourism & Chairman of the Board, Liberia Tourism Authority, Onanuga noted that Liberia is ready, willing, and open for business, striking a balance between vision and invitation—placing tourism at the center of Liberia’s growth strategy while calling for a deeper partnership with Japan.
According to a dispatch, he outlined how tourism can serve not only as an engine of economic growth but also as a compliance framework to strengthen Liberia’s institutions.
Drawing inspiration from Japan’s globally admired strengths—its greenery-first urban planning, rule of law, and balanced management of land and water, the presidential envoy painted a picture of how these best practices could transform Liberia’s cities, environment, and governance.
“Liberia is a democratic frontier, a youthful nation eager to learn, eager to grow, and eager to partner. We believe Japan’s story can inspire Liberia’s next chapter,” he told the gathering.
The forum audience, made up of Japanese investors, senior Liberian officials, and other international participants, responded warmly to his vision of “Jalib”—a Liberia–Japan partnership that transcends trade into shared cultural and economic identity.
He described Liberia as a “virgin market” with immense potential, driven by its youthful population, ongoing green revolution, and a government unified behind sustainable development.
“With nearly 67 percent of Liberians under 35, we are not just a country of potential—we are a country of energy, talent, and determination ready to be harnessed,” Ambassador Onanuga told the conference.
He announced concrete steps to turn vision into action: the creation of a Liberia–Japan Tourism and Investment Task Force and youth exchange programs in tourism, compliance, and environmental management.
Ambassador Onanuga said, “This is the moment to take Japan to Liberia, and to bring Liberia to Japan. Together, we can build not just businesses, but a shared future.” The Liberia Business Forum ended with optimism in the air—an unmistakable signal that Liberia is stepping confidently onto the global investment stage.”
