Liberia Backs Two-State Solution -Sackie warns parties against unilateral actions

Monrovia – Liberia has used its place at the Security Council to restate a position it first took in 1947. Prutus Sackie, Liberia’s Political Coordinator to the United Nations Security Council, backed a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He warned all parties against unilateral actions that change facts on the ground. He also sought the full implementation of Resolution 2803. Its transitional and stabilization mechanisms, he argued, should lead toward Palestinian statehood, not away from it. Liberia further aligned itself with the 2024 Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice. The statement anchors Liberia’s Security Council diplomacy firmly in international law and precedent. The window, Sackie conceded, is narrow, as THE ANALYST reports.

In accordance with international law and relevant United Nations (UN) resolutions, the Republic of Liberia has reiterated calls for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Speaking Monday at the UN Security Council’s 10230th meeting, Prutus Sackie, Liberia’s Political Coordinator to the UN Security Council, asserted that a lasting peace requires Israel and Palestine to coexist as independent nations living side by side with secure borders.

He urged all parties to refrain from unilateral actions that alter the facts on the ground and foreclose the prospect of two states.

According to him, Liberia seeks the complete and faithful implementation of Resolution 2803, stressing that its authorized transitional and stabilization mechanisms should facilitate Palestinian statehood instead of diverting from it.

International Law and History

Liberia also reiterated its commitment to align fully with international law, Security Council resolutions and the 2024 Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice, he disclosed.

The opportunity for a two-state solution exists but is limited, and Liberia supports nations and leaders willing to pursue this path, he noted.

In 1947, Liberia voted in favor of General Assembly Resolution 181, which envisioned an independent Palestinian state and an independent Jewish state.
