The Standard-bearer of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Mr. Alexander Benedict Cummings has said that seeing the country going through 365 days of frustration, hopelessness, pain and loss it was time to bind, care, heal and rebuild in 2022 in order to effect the real change needed in the country. Mr. Cummings’s statement was contained in a short and recorded video message he shared to the public as his New Year message to Liberians at home and abroad to herald the year 2022.
“After a tough year, I want to be the first person to wish you a healthy and a happy new year. We continue to be tested in difficult and harming ways, yet we are inspired by Liberians from all walks of life, who despite the difficulties are stepping up everyday, to create change and make things better”, Mr. Cummings said.
He noted that there can be no better way to ring in 2022 than to be inspired by the spirit of resilience and hope of Liberians. He stated that however far the citizens fall, it is always within them to step up again and drive themselves forward, which he said they can do and must be done for the citizens and the country. He stressed that however disappointed the citizens may be, there must be a possibility for change for a better future for the country.
“I believe our best days are still ahead of us. And as hard as it may be for some to believe, I urge you not to lose hope. Just like 2021 must pass, so that 2022 begins anew, so too this period of disappointment shall pass so that a strong, united and prosperous Liberia will begin anew and arise”, Mr. Cummings said
The businessman turned politician said that though bad economy, poor healthcare, unemployment, failing school system, bad governance, insecurity, marginalization, just to name a few will not disappear overnight or in 2022, but as citizens begin the new year, if they collectively put it in the work to educate and empower the people will increase the possibility for real change in the direction of country and the lives of every Liberian. “On many things we will never agree, but on the need to change the direction of our country and improve the living condition of our people we cannot disagree”, he stated
In the short but loaded message Mr. Cummings continued, “We have to press forward with our eyes set on a better 21st century Liberia. Real change is not about the party, it is about the country; it is not about the past, it is about a new future. Change never happens until people are ready to act to happen”.
On the situation of the COVID 19 disease in the country, he said rather than wait to be overwhelmed about the pandemic again, everyone should do the little thing, like wearing mask, washing our hands and holding others accountable to wear their masks and keep social distances in order for everyone to all stay healthy. He added that some time it is in each of the people doing the little things, the right things that will create the changes needed to be effected. “Again, Theresa and I wish you and yours a happy, healthy and prosperous new year. Thank God and warm personal regards to you and your families”, he concluded his message.
