Lamentations for Standing Alone in Nimba Elections -CMC Says Old Guards Keeping Away, But Still Hopeful
MONROVIA – It is like the old political guards are saying, “You want to steal the show from us, you johnny-just-come; you are on your own”, but the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) is retoting, saying, “we are better and still potent without you”.
Whatever the actual case, the CMC has smelled something politically odorous and in a statement titled, “CMC Stands Alone — And Strong — in the Fight for a Better Nimba and Liberia,” the country’s newest political party says “Now that the old and usual political players have firmly taken sides, the Citizen Movement for Change (CMC) is proud to stand alone in our unwavering quest for a better Nimba and a better Liberia”.
Said the CMC further: “The recent decisions by so-called usual ‘political stakeholders’ only serve to highlight what is deeply broken in our political system — a culture of self-preservation, compromise without conscience, and total disconnect from the daily suffering of our people. These alliances do not surprise us; they only reinforce CMC’s resolve to chart a bold and different path for our people.”
The party founded Nimba County District #7 Representative Musa Hassan Bility, said in the statement that “The people of Nimba are not blind. They know who walks with them and who merely remembers them during election season. They will not be dictated to by elites who know nothing of the pain, poverty, and powerlessness they endure daily. The era of political elites deciding the fate of the people is over.”
CMC said it believes in the collective will of the people, and thinks that Nimbains are ready to think independently, vote consciously, and choose leadership that speaks for them, not at them.
“We are not moved by temporary coalitions built on fear and favoritism. We are moved by the hope and hunger of the people for lasting change,” said the party, adding: “Let the old guard do what they’ve always done — because the end will justify the means. In the end, it is the people who will speak — and when they do, they will speak loudly for change.”
“We are ready. We are focused. And we will not back down,” the CMC asserted.
