Labor Ministry Brings Back ‘Vacation Job’ Scheme 346 Liberians expected to be First Batch of Beneficiaries

The Ministry of Labour through the National Bureau of Employment has deemed it necessary to recommence the National Vacation Job Program which was geared towards youth employment and empowerment.

The National Vacation Job Program has been dormant due to non-budgetary allotment and other stakeholders’ supports for decades.

This time the Ministry of Labour is vigorously soliciting support from the private sector, partners in the labour sector, NGOs and stakeholders for the sustainability of the National Vacation Job Program annually. 

The goal of the program is to interactively engage Liberian youth in Vacation Job and community development initiatives during the vacation period (July to September each year). It is also gear toward lessening the cost associated with returning to school by providing some remuneration for services rendered during the program period and to learn from role models and at the same time having the exposure to the work environment.

This year, a pilot exercise initiated by the office of the Minister of Labour, Hon. Cooper W. Kruah, was able to yield the following results shown below in the table, totaling the amount of $27,825.00 from seven (7) institutions supporting 346 beneficiaries covering three (3) counties (Montserrado, contributed to the pilot exercise, the number of slots provided and amount paid to each beneficiary.
