The lower house of the national legislature has passed a total of 54 bills during its 4th Sitting in 2021, which ran from Monday, January 11 to Tuesday, December 21.
Giving the annual statistics on the legislative instruments, the Director of Press and Public Affairs of the House of Representatives, Mr. Robert Haynes told news men in an interview at a local radio station that 31 bills were passed during REGULAR SESSION while 23 bills were approved during special sitting.
Mr. Haynes stated that during the SPECIAL SITTING, some of the key bills passed included the National Budget in the tone of US$786m, the amendment of the Act establishing the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) to give the anti-graft institution prosecutorial power as well as the Dual Citizenship Bill, which allows Liberians at home, and abroad to maintain their citizenship.
Director Haynes concluded by acknowledging that due to the budget and other legislative instruments Lawmakers had to call themselves back for two months , which he added indicates their commitment to work diligently in the interest of the citizenry.
