MONROVIA – Amid rising tensions over land ownership and displacement in Monrovia, the House of Representatives has moved to mediate between affected residents and the Executive Branch. The Camp Ramrod dispute underscores broader challenges around urban land governance, compensation, and citizens’ rights. Lawmakers’ proposal of a six-month compensation framework reflects growing legislative pressure for humane and structured solutions to land conflicts that have increasingly tested public trust in state institutions. The Analyst reports.

The Leadership of the House of Representatives on Monday held a meeting with citizens and residents claiming ownership of land along the 72nd Barracks area, popularly known as Camp Ramrod, following appeals for time and compensation for families affected by the ongoing situation.

The engagement was prompted by appeals from Montserrado County Electoral District #5 Representative, Hon. Priscilla Cooper, who presented the concerns and petitions of her constituents to the House leadership.

After listening to the affected residents, House leadership proposed a six-month timeframe within which the National Government is expected to identify and develop a compensation and relocation package for families impacted by the land issue.

The Speaker and members of the House leadership assured residents that the Legislature would formally communicate the proposal to the Executive Branch in pursuit of a humane and sustainable resolution.

Affected residents, accompanied by their lawmaker, expressed appreciation to the House leadership for hearing their plight during what they described as a difficult period for their families.

Lawmakers said a structured relocation and compensation plan would improve the situation, provide relief to affected households, and ensure respect for citizens’ rights and public interest.
