Guinea Returns to Polls Since 2021 Coup -Snowe on ECOWAS Observatory Delegation, Nation Lauded

MONROVIA – As the people of the Republic of Guinea cast their votes today, December 28, 2025 in the country’s first presidential election since the 2021 military takeover, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), through the ECOWAS Parliament, is leading a delegation to observe this historic electoral process and to extend its best wishes.

The election represents a decisive and commendable step toward the full restoration of constitutional order in Guinea.

ECOWAS commends the Government and, most importantly, the people of Guinea for their resilience, patience, and steadfast commitment throughout the transition period, as well as their adherence to the agreed ECOWAS roadmap. Their collective choice of peace, dialogue, and democratic participation over conflict reflects a deep sense of national responsibility and a sincere desire to secure unity, stability, and progress for the country and future generations.

In this regard, ECOWAS also congratulates Honorable Edwin Melvin Snowe Jr., Senator of the Republic of Liberia and a distinguished member of the ECOWAS Parliamentary Board, for his personal and active role in supporting the restoration of peace and the promotion of free, fair, and credible elections in Guinea.

His engagement exemplifies Liberia’s continued contribution to regional peacebuilding and democratic governance within the ECOWAS community.

ECOWAS stands firmly alongside the people of Guinea as they move forward toward democratic renewal, national cohesion, and sustainable stability.
