MONROVIA – In what could be a good sign in his outing in the 2023 Presidential elections, the Standard Bearer of the Liberia People’s Party(LPP), Cllr. Tiawan S. Gongloe has won two major opinion polls conducted by two media institutions, Pepper Bird and Ambassadors TV Liberia to gauge public acceptability of the leading candidates in the race.
According to a press release issued by LPP, signed and approved by Messrs Weah Karpeh and Cllr. Jimmy Saah Momo , Secretary General and Chairman of the Secretariat respectively, PEPPER BIRD, asked:“If elections were held today, who would you vote for: President George Manneh Weah; Former Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai; Businessman Alexander Benedict Cummings or Cllr. Tiawan Saye Gongloe?” According to the outcome released by the online group, 115 people responded with Gongloe winning 45 votes; Boakai, 41; Cummings, 15 and Weah, 14.
For AMBASSADORS TV LIBERIA, the question was: “If elections were held tomorrow, who would you vote for: President George Manneh Weah; Former Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai; Businessman Alexander Benedict Cummings; Cllr. Tiawan Saye Gongloe or Daniel Cassell?” Here, 27 people responded. Again, newcomer, Cllr. Gongloe won by 19 votes while Former Vice President Boakai, 8. Then, President Weah, Cummings and Cassell recorded nil, each.
On October 10, 2023, Liberians will go to the poll to elect their President and Legislators. Other than President George Manneh Weah who might succeed himself, anyone that wins would replace the President who has been in place since January, 2018.
“Like the past, an array of contenders might emerge months leading to the crucial national poll. However, among others, the names of four individuals – all males – fill the media as contenders for the topmost position in Liberia. The individuals are: Incumbent President, George Manneh Weah (Coalition for Democratic Change – CDC); Former Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai (Unity Party – UP); Businessman Alexander Benedict Cummings (Alternative National Congress – ANC); and Renowned Lawyer and Human Rights Advocate, Cllr. Tiawan Saye Gongloe (Liberian People’s Party – LPP).
“Whereas President Weah would be testing his popularity again in seeking re-election, Former Vice President Boakai making the second/third attempts, Businessman Cummings posing the second time, Cllr. Gongloe would be showcasing himself for the first time ever as the viable alternative to lead Liberia. In one form or the other, the probable contenders and their aides crisscross the Country to garner support, drumming up their individual platforms. While newcomer Gongloe ably propagates his Better Liberia Agenda; Cummings – Liberia First; Boakai – Think Liberia, Love Liberia, Build Liberia; Weah roots for his Pro-Poor Agenda for Development and Prosperity”, the statement concluded.
