‘Day of the People’ Protest Looms -STAND Mobilizes Masses under ‘Enough is Enough’ Banner

MONROVIA – Every Liberian politician, particularly when they are in opposition, cite one particular segment of population in whose cause their struggle or agitation is rooted: ‘the masses of the people’. But what is however profoundly interesting or ironical is that when the agitators take political power, they often thrash the people and make them the jetsam and flotsam of the struggle. And the vicious cycle has continued to from one political epoch to another. Now, it seems the masses themselves are rising up from their complacency and lethargy, saying ‘Enough is Enough’, and ready to take their own cause in their hands. As The Analyst reports, the country’s grassroots organization, Solidarity and Trust for a New Day, STAND for short, is leading a nationwide mobilization that would thrust the masses into a peaceful protest across the country in July this year.

In what it calls a powerful response to growing national despair, Solidarity and Trust for a New Day (STAND) has officially declared Thursday, July 17, 2025, as “The Day of the People”— a day of massive, nationwide protest action under the banner “Enough Is Enough.”

In a press statement, STAND says the planned demonstration seeks to confront the worsening economic crisis, unchecked corruption, lawlessness, police brutality, and the complete breakdown of the healthcare system, among other urgent national concerns.

This historic announcement follows a mass citizen convergence at STAND’s national headquarters in Congo Town on Saturday, where Liberians from all sectors of society, including students, market women, religious leaders, civil servants, health workers, farmers, and transport operators, presented a formal resolution.

The resolution called on STAND’s Chairman Mulbah K. Morlu to take bold leadership in organizing and executing a nonviolent people’s uprising to demand urgent democratic reforms and bring an end to the national suffering under the Joseph Boakai-led administration.

Naturally inclined to these pro-masses initiatives, STAND’s Chairman Morlu accepted resolution to lead & organize protest, officially declaring July 17th, 2025 as Day of the People. He also declared his commitment to lead the nationwide protest effort.

“We will go to every town, city, district, and village to awaken the conscience of this nation,” he told the petitioners. “Not less than 30,000 Liberians will take to the streets peacefully on July 17th – the Day of the People.”

The protest, he says, will be held under the caption, ‘Enough Is Enough’.

Morlu used the occasion to immediately the launch of a comprehensive nationwide mobilization strategy, pledging to engage citizens in every county to ensure maximum turnout and unity of purpose.

He emphasized that this is not just a protest, but a people’s movement to reclaim democracy, bring down the cost of living, restore dignity to public service, and stop the endless deaths of the poor due to healthcare collapse.

He also stated that the protest will push for urgent reforms within the civil service sector, emphasizing that no civil servant should earn less than US$500 per month.
