MONROVIA: As politicians continue to woo supporters across the country in order to boost their chances in the ensuing general election, the Presidential bid of the Standard Bearer of the Unity Party (UP), Mr. Joseph Nyumah Boakai, yesterday, Thursday, June 15, 2023 got a huge boost when up to 230,000 members of the Tricycle and Motorcycle Union of Liberia endorsed the former Vice President and pledged to ensure that he is elected as President of Liberia on October 10, 2023 when Liberians will be going to the polls to elect a new president, vice president and some other lawmakers.
According to a press release issued by the party, a copy of which was sent to The Analyst, the elaborate ceremony was held at the residence of the former Vice President, Rehab Community, Paynesville City during which time the President General of the organization, Mr. John AF Kenyor, after introducing his delegation, told the UP presidential aspirant “that the battle is not his, but the battle is for them the Federation of Tricycle and Motorcycle Union of Liberia and that the Unions will make sure he is elected president of Liberia.
The President -General told the crowd that the decision is about the nation and not about individuals because according to him, “Liberia will rise again.” He further stated that motorcyclists “will no longer be exploited for the selfish ambitions of politicians and that they will no longer be blind loyalists to selfish individuals and political institutions because they have in the past exhibited a wrong way of leading people”.
He further went on to emphasize that his Union will be on the campaign team of UP and called on the party to recognize all the Union’s Coordinators in the fifteen counties to attain maximum political dividends ahead of the October 10 polls.
Responding to the group, Mr. Boakai who is also the Political Leader of UP, said at the occasion thanked them for finding it worthy to identify with his ambition by endorsing him in the process, urging UP partisans to recognize the value of the people and praised the over 230,000 motorcycle and tricycle Union members for their immense services they are rendering the people and country especially in the absence of a reliable transportation system in the country.
The Former Vice President lamented the unbelievable and dangerous conditions transporting critically sick people at night and told the Union that they will be on the right side of history when it is written, “because the leadership of the Union refused to be induced by money”, adding “that is what we referred to as putting country above personal interest”.
He told the Union that because of the level of organization that has been attained by the Union, they can now speak with one voice and expressed happiness with the level of inclusion of women in the Union administration.
While the ceremony was in progress the Standard Bearer was joined by the Senator Jeremiah Koung, Vice Standard Bearer of the Unity Party who also spoke to the Union Officials and recognized some of his classmates in the gathering. The occasion was also attended by the Chair of the Unity Party, Rev. Dr. Luther Tarpeh, the force behind the Union and some of the top advisers of Mr. Boakai and support staff.
