CSO Group Raises Concern over Sirleaf’s Predicament with GTB -Wants alleged stolen money case expedited

The quest by Mr. Charles E. Sirleaf to seek legal redress over his complaint filed with the Commercial Court against two staff of the Guaranty Trust Bank for alleged theft of his USD850, 000 and LD$10 million received a boost yesterday, August 12, 2021 when a local civil society organization, the Movement for Transparent Justice in Liberia took issues with what it called deliberate display of delay tactics by the Guaranty Trust Bank (GT Bank) in availing itself to the resolution of the case.

“The Movement for Transparent Justice in Liberia will like to state that the theft that affected the accounts of Mr. Sirleaf at the GT Bank is grave in nature and has the propensity to derail the already fragile confidence in the banking industry of our country. Therefore, we are requesting the Justice in Chambers of the Supreme Court of Liberia His Honor Joseph Nagbe not to no longer tolerate the intentional delay and/or procrastination of the case by lawyers of GT Bank”, the group said.

According to a press release signed by its Secretary General, Martin W. Mulbah, the group said it is Ironically and more disgustingly, that amid the protracted case at the Commercial Court at the Temple of Justice, the culprits ,Andrea Dougba and prince Genesis who were investigated and criminally charged by the Liberia National Police (LNP) continue to show up for work on a daily basis without the authorities of the bank ensuring their suspension off the job pending the outcome of a court ruling. The group said the action of the GT Bank Management to continuously shield the culprits who are been charged criminally suggests clearly that the theft against Mr. Sirleaf is a well-organized syndicate that involves top officials of the bank.

While urging the court to act decisively to close the matter within the limits of the law, the group noted that at the moment, Plaintiff Charles E. Sirleaf has rested with the production of evidence and witnesses and the burden is now on the GT Bank Lawyers to dispel the charges brought against it by allowing the culprits Andrea Dougba and Prince Genesis to take the witness stand because to them Justice delay is Justice denied.
