The presence of strong political parties is often a good indicator of modern democracy. Individuals with common socioeconomic and political interests therefore tent under political structures to push their agenda through elective processes. In the same order, the opposition Collaborating Political Parties is expected to formally join the pantheon of political institutions in the country when they receive their certificate of accreditation today, August 14, 2020 in the James M. Fromoyan Conference Hall at 2:00 P.M.
According to a communication dated August 11, 2020 from National Elections Commission Chairperson, Davidetta Browne Lansanah, “the proposed CPP has met all of the legal requirements to operate as full-fledged political institution as enshrined in Article 79 of the Constitution of Liberia and Chapter 8, Section 8.5 of the 1986 New Elections Law, which speak to the registration of alliance and coalition in Liberia”.
“The Executive Committee and members of the proposed Collaborating Political Parties are invited at the ceremony,” the NEC communication to the CPP stated.
The CPP comprises the Unity Party (UP) of former Vice President Joseph N. Boakai, the Alternative National Congress (ANC) of businessman Alexander B. Cummings, the All Liberia Party (ALP) of business magnate Benoni Urey and the Liberty Party (LP) of Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence.
