MONROVIA – The Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) has alarmed and called international attention to the lawlessness, dangerous display and brandishing of assault rifles by suspected CDC militias and state securities who wore political paraphernalia during its so called one-million-man petition ceremony of President George Weah in Monrovia on February 4, 2023.
The CPP in a statement issued on Monday, February 6, said: “These gangster-looking individuals wore CDC insignias and political paraphernalia including T-Shirts which made them indistinguishable between CDC militias and state security.” CPP said, it is deeply disturbed by these developments, which are signs of dangerous things to come.
“If these rifle-carrying individuals were CDC militias, the CPP demands an explanation and independent investigation on how they got such weaponry in a political gathering, and why were they allowed to exhibit assault rifles in such threatening public manner,” CPP said.
“The CDC cannot and will not be permit any acts of intimidation and threats of peaceful Liberian citizens in such belligerent and hostile manner. Party militias must never be permitted to act as and with the authority of state securities,” the statement cautioned.
CPP said, however, if the rifle-toting persons are state security, it calls for their immediate suspension, investigation, and prosecution, as state security personnel should not be allowed to wear political attires while carrying out their national security duties; adding: “It is totally unacceptable to turn state security into personal militias to the President, city mayor, or the ruling party.”
The Collaborating Political Group noted that over the past five years of President Weah’s failed administration, Liberia continues to see breakdown of law and order, and public display of false impressions that the President and his officials are above the law.
The CPP said public officials’ refusal to obey the law, as well as the breakdown of professionalism in, and public trust of, state security institutions, as was the case, when the carrier of a state weapon is encouraged to wear partisan t-shirt of a political group, such individual undermines the neutrality of the state security forces in political competition and discourses.
CPP said these acts of blatant disregard of the law endangers and undermines the nation’s peace, security, and democracy.
“For six years, state security forces have morphed into a hostile partisan force against peaceful citizens and critics of the government,” the leading opposition group observed.
CPP disclosed that it is deeply concerned that the lawless display on Saturday, February 4, at the CDC petition charade appears to have been sanctioned by the President.
The statement said while the CPP condemns these and other lawless activities, as Liberians move to elections to end President Weah’s six years of misrule, it calls on the international community to condemn such lawless behaviors which are signals of a weak and increasingly unpopular President, and an attempt to undermine national security, the rule of law, and risk the peaceful transfer of power in Liberia.
CPP said despite massive wasteful spending of taxpayers’ money, and hijacking, with huge media blitz and billboards displayed by the President and other campaign materials and lies, the CDC gimmick, attracted less than two percent of Liberia’s eligible voters nationwide.
CPP said the low turnout at the CDC political charade has sent a clear and strong signal to Mr. Weah and CDC that the vast majority of Liberians have given up on his six-year failed and leaderless presidency; adding: “They see him as the man responsible today for their suffering as well as the massive stealing in government and the gross mismanagement of the country’s resources,” the CPP statement said.
“Accordingly, the Liberian people reject his lies and 419 leadership even as he allegedly spent over US$3.5 million plus free rice and T-Shirts and offered free transportation to Liberians to attend his so-called petition ceremony on Saturday, February 4,” CPP said.
The statement concluded that February 4, 2023 will be remembered as the beginning of the democratic end of the one-term failed and leaderless presidency of George Weah and his band of thieves.

“The Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) applaud the Liberian people for their courage to snub the so-called Million Man Petitioning, on Saturday, February 4, 2023, for the re-election of George Weah. Monrovia has eligible voter population of approximately 1 million. Ten percent of Monrovia’s eligible voters would be about 100,000 persons. After months of massively spending taxpayers’ money, and hijacking and saturating the media and other public spaces with campaign materials and lies, Mr. Weah’s gimmick failed to turn out less than 2% of Monrovia’s eligible voting population in Monrovia or anywhere else across the country.
“By their stand, the CPP notes that the Liberian people have sent a clear and strong signal to Mr. Weah and his CDC that they have given up on his sixth year failed and leaderless presidency. They see him as the man responsible today for their suffering as well as the massive stealing in government and the gross mismanagement of the country’s resources. Accordingly, the Liberian people reject his lies and 419 leadership even as he allegedly spent over US$3.5 million plus free rice and T-Shirts and offered free transportation to Liberians to attend his so-called petitioning. Saturday, February 4, will therefore be remembered as the beginning of the democratic end of the one-term failed and leaderless presidency of George Weah and his band of thieves.
“Liberia’s problems are complex and require thoughtful plans and solutions. In their overwhelming rejection, Liberians showed that they fully understand that what Mr. Weah and his collaborators were offering them to turnout was only a one-time offer that will again leave Liberians to suffer for another six years, if he is reelected. Only this time, it will be worse because he would not need their votes again which would make him even more reckless, uncaring, corrupt and wasteful. Liberians know that baboon can’t change its ugliness.
“Indeed, many who attended the rally were somehow coerced. Monrovia alone has more than 5,000 government workers and relatives who faced threats of losing their jobs if they did not turn out. In addition, employees of state enterprises number more than another 5,000 who encountered intimidation and threats of dismissal and reprisals, if they did not attend the charade. Tribal governors, superintendents, commissioners and petty officials were required to bring out their people in their communities and respective jurisdictions or face the wrath of an increasingly unpopular and witch-hunting administration. It is noted that despite heavy pressure, most of these workers managed to elude the dragnet and stayed away from the charade.
“To coerce government employees especially appointed officials of the Executive Branch to attend and participate in political rallies violate Part 5, Section 5.1 of the National Code of Conduct which provides that all officials appointed by the President shall not, “Engage in political activities, canvass, or contest for elected offices, use government facilities, equipment or resources in support of partisan or political activities.” The February 4 charade was mostly a lawless undertaking which was rightfully snubbed by the vast majority of the Liberian people.
“The CPP acknowledges the resolve of the overwhelming majority of our people to further resist more charades, lawlessness, and shenanigans of President Weah and his CDC. Accordingly, the CPP reaffirms its determination to save our country from Weah’s misrule and to end the suffering and misery of the Liberian people. President George Weah must and will be booted out in October,” the release noted.
