MONROVIA – In a bold declaration, Nimba County District #7 Representative and Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) leader Musa Hassan Bility says Liberia is on the cusp of a new political era, where citizens demand accountability, visible development, and responsible leadership, In a regular column, Letter from Saclepea, the Liberian lawmaker outlines his party’s vision for a transformed Liberia, built on the principles of answerability, local development, and a departure from the country’s tired political traditions. The Analyst reports.
A new phase of Liberian politics is unfolding, marked by citizens demanding accountability and visible development from leaders, according to Musa Hassan Bility, the Nimba County District #7 Representative and leader of the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC).
In a recent commentary, Bility highlighted the growing resonance of the CMC and the changing consciousness of Liberians, who are increasingly demanding more from their leaders.
Bility, who has campaigned extensively across the country, stated that he sees a difference in the current political landscape.
“As I travel across our country, from villages to towns, from marketplaces to city centers, I see a difference,” he said. “I have been on all sides of political outcomes—victory, defeat, and renewal. But never before have I found myself at the center of a campaign that is not just about winning, but about meaning, about redefining the Liberian political journey itself.”
The CMC leader attributed the growing support for his party to the people’s desire for change and their growing understanding of leadership as a responsibility to be earned, rather than a gift to be received.
“People are beginning to think differently about power,” he opined. “They are beginning to understand that leadership is not a gift to be received but a responsibility to be earned.”
Bility noted that Liberians are tired of the same faces trading power and the same promises being recycled every election cycle.
“The growing resonance of the CMC is genuine,” he emphasized. “It comes from a people who are tired of the same faces trading power, tired of the same promises recycled every election cycle, tired of leaders who seek office without answering hard questions.”
The CMC leader also stressed the need for leaders to be accountable and present new plans and ideas.
“As the next election approaches, those who have ruled or are ruling must face two questions for every promise they make: What is your new plan, and why did you not fulfill it when you had power?” he asked. “That is the burden of experience, and that is the weight of accountability.”
Bility highlighted the CMC’s focus on building a foundation of visible, local development across Liberia.
He stated: “The CMC stands ready, not with rhetoric but with resolve. We are building a foundation of visible, local development across Liberia, one community at a time. We want to be known as the party that builds, the party that solves, the party that works.”
In conclusion, Bility stated that Liberia is finally ready for a new phase of politics, where citizens will not just cheer their leaders but question them and demand accountability.
“A new phase of Liberian politics is unfolding, one where citizens will not just cheer their leaders but question them, one where they will not just receive but reason, and one where doing a little now will mean the promise of doing more tomorrow,” he said. “The difference is here. And Liberia is finally ready for it.”
